SAIC Motor Australia, the distributor of MG vehicles locally, has issued a safety recall for its MG3 hatchback (model years 2024–2025) after discovering a potential fault that could compromise driver safety during a collision.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?
According to the official recall notice (reference REC-006468, campaign RE004), the inner side of the driver’s seat cushion frame may move further forward and downward than intended in the event of a crash. This excessive movement could inadvertently contact the unlocking lever and locking pin, causing the inboard seat rail to unlock.
If the seat unlocks or shifts unexpectedly during an accident, it could increase the risk of injury or death to the driver and passengers.
