MINI Australia has confirmed that it will commemorate one of the most significant moments in its motorsport history with the arrival of the MINI Cooper JCW 1965 Victory Edition, scheduled to arrive in local showrooms in Q2 2026 (April–June).
Limited to just 30 vehicles nationwide, the allocation comprises:
- 20 petrol MINI John Cooper Works
- 10 electric MINI John Cooper Works
Pricing will be announced closer to launch, though a modest premium over standard JCW variants is expected.
A tribute to the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally victory

The special edition pays homage to the Mini Cooper S that claimed overall honours at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1965.
Piloted by Timo Mäkinen and co-driven by Paul Easter, the compact British hatch stunned larger, more powerful rivals with its lightweight construction, sharp handling and exceptional traction in harsh winter conditions.
The Mini would go on to secure Monte Carlo victories in 1964, 1965 and 1967, cementing its status as a motorsport icon.
Exterior highlights

Finished in Chili Red, the 1965 Victory Edition references the red-and-white Cooper S of six decades ago.
Key exterior highlights include:
- White bonnet stripe extending across the roof
- White “52” side graphic referencing the original race number
- Subtle “1965” badge on the C-pillar
- Panoramic roof (optional in Australia)
- 18-inch alloy wheels:
- JCW Lap Spoke two-tone (petrol)
- JCW Mastery Spoke black (electric)
- Floating wheel centre caps with MINI wordmark
- Edition-specific painted valve caps
One of the more discreet tributes is the inclusion of “AJB446” hidden within the bonnet stripe, the registration number of the original 1965 Monte Carlo-winning car.
The approach strikes a balance between overt heritage cues and understated, collector-focused detailing.
Interior highlights

Inside, the JCW-specific anthracite and red colour scheme remains, while commemorative elements are layered throughout:
- Illuminated door sills with white “1965” lettering
- Commemorative plaque referencing the original rally-winning car and drivers
- “1965” graphic on the 6 o’clock spoke of the steering wheel
- Matching centre console storage detailing
- Historic race number displayed on the exclusive key cap
The changes are cosmetic rather than structural, preserving the standard JCW cabin layout and equipment levels.
Performance highlights

Mechanically, both variants carry over unchanged.

The electric JCW edges out the petrol variant in outright acceleration, reflecting MINI’s gradual shift towards electrified performance while retaining its traditional front-wheel-drive layout.
Expected pricing in Australia

While official pricing remains unconfirmed, current JCW variants provide context:
- Petrol JCW Favoured three-door: $60,990 before on-roads
- Electric JCW E Favoured three-door: $63,990 before on-roads
Given the limited-run nature and bespoke detailing, the 1965 Victory Edition is likely to command a modest premium.
MINI’s motorsport legacy and brand evolution

The original Mini traces its roots to 1959, when racing team owner John Cooper convinced designer Alec Issigonis and the British Motor Corporation that a high-performance version of the compact city car was viable.
Production Cooper models launched in 1961, and the rally successes that followed reshaped the perception of small cars in motorsport.
BMW acquired the rights to the Mini name in 1994 through its purchase of Rover before relaunching the modern MINI brand in 2001. The current Cooper hatch is now in its fourth generation.
Strong timing for a heritage edition

The 1965 Victory Edition arrives amid solid performance for the brand locally:
- John Cooper Works models accounted for 21 per cent of MINI Australia sales in 2025
- Electrified MINIs made up 31 per cent of total sales
By offering both petrol and electric variants, MINI positions the edition as a bridge between its 1960s rally heritage and its electrified future.
With only 30 examples confirmed for Australia, the MINI Cooper JCW 1965 Victory Edition is expected to appeal strongly to brand loyalists and collectors seeking a limited-run performance hatch with genuine historical significance.
