The Mitsubishi Triton has received a suite of rally-inspired chassis upgrades in Japan, headlined by new Yamaha Motor Performance Dampers designed to enhance ride comfort, handling stability, and overall refinement.
The updated Thai-built ute goes on sale in Japan from February 19, where it’s offered exclusively in flagship GSR trim. Mitsubishi Australia has not yet confirmed whether the same suspension and chassis updates will be introduced to local showrooms.
Rally-bred suspension tweaks
Mitsubishi says it has revised several elements of the Triton to improve the ride comfort and handling, including:
- Updated front suspension settings aimed at reducing vibration
- Revised body mount tuning to improve overall refinement
- Improved responsiveness of the front and rear shock absorbers
The standout addition is Yamaha Motor’s Performance Damper, fitted to both the front and rear of the vehicle. According to Mitsubishi, the dampers work to “regulate and absorb deformation and vibrations of the vehicle body while riding,” reducing vertical movement over bumps and smaller vibrations transmitted from the engine.
The company claims the result is greater handling stability and improved ride comfort, not just in everyday urban driving but also during more aggressive driving situations. Mitsubishi already employs the same Yamaha Performance Damper technology in its Triton rally car, helping draw a direct link between its motorsport program and this road-going update.

Minor interior updates for Japan
Alongside the chassis changes, the 2026 Japanese-market Mitsubishi Triton GSR gains subtle interior updates, including new ‘dark titanium’ trim for the centre console and door handles. Tailgate assist also becomes standard equipment, though this feature is already fitted to some Australian-market Mitsubishi Triton variants.
Full Australian specifications remain unchanged for now, and Mitsubishi has stopped short of confirming whether the upgraded suspension package will be rolled out beyond Japan.

Competition heating up in Australia
The timing of the update is notable, with the Mitsubishi Triton set to face its closest competition yet in Australia. Nissan has recently revealed a new-generation Navara that is effectively a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi ute.
However, a key difference lies beneath the skin. The Nissan Navara will feature a unique suspension tune developed by Australian engineering firm Premcar, including bespoke dampers. Nissan and Premcar claim these changes deliver improved body control and ride comfort compared with the Mitsubishi Triton.
The current-generation Mitsubishi Triton launched in Australia in early 2024, while the new Navara is expected to follow roughly a couple of years later. Whether Mitsubishi Australia responds by introducing the Japanese-market Yamaha-backed chassis upgrades locally remains to be seen.
