Drivers across Victoria are being urged to stay alert on the roads, with police confirming the latest locations for mobile phone and seatbelt detection cameras this September. Covering both Melbourne and regional areas, the new list outlines where the portable trailers may be located throughout the month.
322 approved sites this September

In total, 322 sites have been approved for camera use this month. Police rotate the trailers across these locations, meaning drivers may see them in different spots on different days.
How do the cameras work?

The cameras are mounted high on portable trailers, positioned to capture overhead images of passing vehicles. They automatically detect two offences:
- Using a mobile phone illegally while driving
- Failing to wear a seatbelt correctly
Why were these locations chosen?

Victoria Police stress that camera sites aren’t chosen at random. Placement is based on:
- Crash history – areas with collisions or road trauma in the past three years
- Community reports – verified complaints about mobile phone or seatbelt misuse
- Police assessment – areas considered high-risk for distraction or non-compliance
- Road environment – locations where drivers are more likely to take risks
In fact, 94% of all selected sites have a crash history over the last three years.
