The Fox body Ford Mustang, once considered a budget-friendly used pony car, has undergone a dramatic resurgence in popularity among enthusiasts. Now, Ford is paying homage to this beloved generation with the all-new 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package—a retro-inspired tribute that blends modern performance with classic styling cues.

A throwback to the Fox body era
The Ford Mustang has a history six decades rich but the Fox body generation of the American sports car, which ended production in 1993, has become a cult favourite among collectors and restorers. Recognising this renewed passion, Ford has crafted the FX Package as a visual love letter to the past while keeping the S650 Mustang’s cutting-edge engineering intact.
While the package is purely aesthetic, it brings a host of eye-catching details that will get approving nods from fans of the original. Ford’s retro mission is instantly apparent in the FX’s teal paintwork — officially called Adriatic Blue Metallic — a colour that could’ve rolled straight out of a 1993 showroom brochure.

The FX Package also features 19-inch split five-spoke alloy wheels finished in Oxford White (for standard models) while the Performance package for the FX package will rock the more intricate wheel design showcased in the teaser (also in Oxford White). That same white finish extends to:
- The Mustang pony and GT badges
- The grille “nostrils” (white for Performance Pack, Dark Carbonised Grey for base FX models)
- Outline accents on exterior badging
- Clear-lens white tail-lights, reminiscent of export-spec S550 models
The retro taillights are also headed to the Ford Performance Parts catalogue for aftermarket buyers.
21st century cabin with ‘90s style

Inside, the Mustang FX Package continues the homage with black Recaro sport seats featuring plaid-style perforated leather inserts, nodding to the seat patterns found in original Fox body Mustangs.
Retro doesn’t stop there:
- Dual-contrast stitching in City Silver and Adriatic Blue appears on the dash, doors, steering wheel, and centre console
- The dash carries a retro-inspired instrument panel badge
- Even the digital instrument cluster layout draws from the Fox body’s classic analogue dials — a feature Ford had already teased with the S650’s launch.
Nothing retro about the performance

Ford has not introduced any mechanical upgrades exclusive to the FX Package, which is based on the GT Premium grade, so the powertrain and performance capabilities remain unchanged.
You get the familiar 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine, paired with either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. This modern-day Mustang with the Performance package puts out 345 kW of power and 550 Nm of torque, which is a healthy dose more than the 172 kW from the 5.0-litre V8 in the 1993 Fox body Mustang Cobra SVT (the model reportedly pictured alongside the Mustang FX Package).

Despite the retro styling cues inspired by the 1990s, the FX delivers all the modern muscle and driving dynamics you’d expect from a current-generation Mustang GT.
When can you get one?
The 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package is set to go on sale in the US later this month, offered exclusively on the GT Premium trim, with the option to add the Performance Package. While there’s no confirmation of an Australian release yet, the special edition is already generating buzz stateside, especially among enthusiasts who grew up idolising the Fox Body era.
Ford has released only a brief teaser video on social media so far. Images used here are courtesy of Ford Authority.
The FX Package isn’t just a nostalgia trip — it’s a statement. One that says the 1990s are officially vintage, and worth celebrating. By blending retro flair with modern performance, Ford’s latest special edition bridges the past and present in a way only a Mustang can. Will you be ordering one? Let us know in the comments!
