Mazda has announced Australian pricing and specifications for the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5, confirming the popular mid-size SUV will start from $39,990 before on-road costs when it arrives in showrooms mid-year.
Despite a modest price increase over the outgoing model, Mazda says the third-generation CX-5 delivers “significant value” thanks to increased standard equipment, upgraded technology and all-wheel drive offered across the entire range from launch.

It has also been the brand’s best-selling model in Australia for seven consecutive years, underlining its importance in the competitive SUV segment.

Familiar engine, future hybrid coming
At launch, the 2026 CX-5 will be offered with a single powertrain: Mazda’s ‘G25’ 2.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine.
Producing 132kW of power and 242Nm of torque, the engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel-drive system as standard across the range.
Fuel consumption is rated at 7.4L/100km on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 173g/km, notably above the Australian Government’s upcoming New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) target of around 110g/km for passenger vehicles in 2026.
To address tightening emissions rules, Mazda has confirmed a hybrid version of the CX-5 will arrive in 2027, debuting a new ‘Skyactiv-Z’ petrol engine designed to improve efficiency and performance.
Mazda CX-5 performance & specs
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 launches in Australia with a single, familiar powertrain, focusing on smooth performance and everyday usability rather than outright sportiness.
Mazda has already confirmed a hybrid CX-5 is due in 2027, introducing a new-generation ‘Skyactiv-Z’ engine aimed at improving both performance and efficiency.
