In a nod to the strength of Australian manufacturing, the Nissan Casting Australia Plant in Dandenong South, Victoria, has been officially approved as the source of critical components for the new-generation Y63 Nissan Patrol. While the updated SUV was revealed in Abu Dhabi in 2024, every unit rolling off the production line for global markets features an Australian-made final drive differential housing.
This contribution places Australia at the heart of a global vehicle programme, with the new Nissan Patrol set to reach customers in countries such as the USA, Canada, Egypt, Cambodia, and throughout the Middle East and Africa. Australian deliveries for the Y63 Patrol are expected in 2026.
Homegrown success story
The Y63 Patrol, Nissan’s flagship 4WD SUV, now includes an Australian touch – with key mechanical parts manufactured in Victoria. According to Nissan Oceania Managing Director Andrew Humberstone, the new Patrol is “not just made for Australia, but partly made in Australia as well.”

The team at the Nissan Casting Australia Plant produces a wide range of components, contributing to the 1.2 million parts manufactured annually for Nissan markets worldwide. The locally made components extend beyond the Patrol to models such as the Navara ute, X-Trail SUV, and the Serena and Note e-Power hybrids for the Japanese market.
Official recognition: ‘Australian Made’ status secured
Now in its 43rd year, the Nissan Casting Australia Plant has secured official ‘Australian Made’ certification for its locally produced components. The certification arrives just in time for ‘Australian Made’ week, celebrating homegrown products.

Though the facility has stamped a kangaroo easter egg into its castings since opening in 1982, the brand only recently underwent the formal certification process. Nissan demonstrated that the imported aluminium ingots are significantly transformed during the manufacturing process, qualifying them as genuinely Australian-made.
What’s next for the Nissan Patrol Y63?

First revealed in 2024, the new Y63 Patrol boasts a modern design, twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and adaptive air suspension. Combined with its upgraded off-road capabilities and premium comfort, the Patrol aims to set new standards in the full-size SUV category when it launches in Australia in late 2026.
