Nissan has revealed the Tekton, a new compact SUV based on the Renault Duster, featuring styling inspired by the current-generation of the iconic Nissan Patrol. The model gives the popular Duster platform a tougher, more premium appearance and will launch first in India before expanding to other markets.
A Duster with Patrol styling
The Renault Duster, also known as the Dacia Duster in Europe, has already earned a reputation for being a budget-friendly all-road SUV with toughness in its DNA. Thus, the Tekton is at an advantage by sharing its platform with the Duster, Nissan has redesigned the SUV to look more like its larger sibling – the Y63 Patrol. The front end gets a new grille, C-shaped LED headlights, and silver accents on the bumper. The bonnet features large Tekton lettering for a bold presence.
On the sides, new alloy wheels and a small vent detail add character, while at the rear, the Duster’s taillights have been replaced with a light bar that stretches across the tailgate, echoing the Patrol’s signature look.

Built for India, with global potential
The Nissan Tekton will be produced at the Renault-Nissan Chennai plant in India, alongside the new Renault Duster. It will sit above the Nissan Magnite in the company’s local lineup and is expected to compete with models like the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, the former also offered in Australia.
Nissan has also hinted that the Tekton could be sold in other global markets. At around 4.3 metres long, it’s slightly smaller than the Nissan Qashqai, but designed to deliver a balance of rugged style and everyday usability. In Australia, it could be seen as a rival to the likes of the Hyundai Kona and Toyota Corolla Cross.
Engines and performance
Nissan hasn’t confirmed the engine lineup yet for its latest SUV, but the Tekton is expected to use the same petrol options as the upcoming Renault Duster — likely including a 1.2L turbocharged engine with front or all-wheel drive.
While it won’t have a powerful engine typical of Nissan’s more rugged SUVs, the Nissan Tekton aims to capture its off-road spirit in a smaller, more efficient package.

A bold new step for Nissan
The Nissan Tekton blends the Duster’s practicality with the Patrol’s bold styling. It shows how Nissan plans to expand its SUV lineup in key global markets, offering rugged looks and modern design in a compact form. While the small, affordable SUV segment in Australia is not as popular as the mid-size SUV segment, a rugged and stylish new offering could be a welcome addition. Currently, this category is dominated by the Chinese brands like GWM and Chery.
More details on pricing, engine choices, and launch timing are expected closer to its Indian debut.
