Omoda Jaecoo Australia has achieved two major milestones in May 2026, recording its highest-ever monthly sales and claiming the title of Australia’s best-selling electric small SUV with the Omoda Jaecoo J5 EV.

According to the brand, Omoda Jaecoo delivered 2,570 vehicles in May, making it the 14th best-selling automotive brand in Australia for the month. The achievement comes just 12 months after the company officially launched in the local market.

The Chinese carmaker says May was another record-breaking month, with registrations climbing beyond the 2,500-unit mark for the first time.

Speaking about the result, Omoda Jaecoo Australia Chief Commercial Officer Roy Munoz said the brand’s rapid growth reflects increasing consumer confidence and strong dealer support.

Key May 2026 sales highlights

  • 2,570 total vehicle registrations
  • 14th best-selling automotive brand in Australia
  • 2,126 Omoda Jaecoo J5 EV registrations
  • Best-selling electric small SUV in Australia during May
  • 2,172 total sales across the J5 range
  • J5 range ranked seventh among Australia’s top-selling vehicles

The result is particularly notable considering the brand only surpassed the 1,000-sales monthly mark earlier this year.

Omoda Jaecoo J5 EV leads Australia’s electric small SUV segment

The biggest contributor to the brand’s success was the Omoda Jaecoo J5 EV. The electric SUV recorded 2,126 registrations during May alone, helping it become the best-selling electric small SUV in Australia for the month.

The broader J5 lineup, which includes both electric and petrol variants, registered a total of 2,172 sales. That figure was enough to place the model range seventh overall among Australia’s best-selling vehicles in May.

The performance highlights growing demand for affordable electric SUVs as more Australian buyers consider alternatives to established EV brands.

Global success mirrors Australian momentum

Australia is not the only market where the J5 is performing strongly.

Omoda Jaecoo says the J5 has led Thailand’s EV sales charts for six consecutive months. In Indonesia, more than 10,000 units were delivered between January and April 2026.

The overseas results suggest the model’s popularity is extending beyond Australia and becoming a key growth driver for the brand globally.

Sales growth continues in 2026

The company has now recorded more than 1,000 monthly deliveries for three consecutive months, spanning March, April and May 2026.

This consistent growth has helped Omoda Jaecoo become one of Australia’s fastest-growing automotive brands, despite being a relatively new entrant in the market.

With new products continuing to arrive and dealer representation expanding nationwide, the brand appears to be building momentum in both the electric vehicle and mainstream SUV segments.

J5 petrol now on sale

June 2026 marks the first full month of sales for the petrol-powered Omoda Jaecoo J5.

The new variant starts from $25,990 drive-away, positioning it as one of the more affordable small SUVs available in Australia.

As a launch incentive, the first 1,000 customers who order a J5 petrol will receive three years of complimentary servicing.

What does this mean for Australia’s EV market?

The Omoda J5 EV’s success adds to a growing list of Chinese brands making significant gains in Australia. As buyers increasingly embrace electric vehicles and value-focused SUVs, newer brands such as Omoda Jaecoo are challenging established manufacturers for market share.

With more than 2,100 J5 EV registrations in May and over 2,500 total deliveries across the brand, Omoda Jaecoo has demonstrated that its rapid rise in Australia is showing no signs of slowing down.
