The Polestar 3, the latest electric SUV from the performance-focused EV brand, has received a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, Australia and New Zealand’s independent vehicle safety authority.

The Polestar 3 distinguished itself from other five-star safety-rated modern cars by scoring 94% in Child Occupant Protection – the second-highest rating ever recorded in this category under ANCAP’s current protocols.

Child safety: a key strength

The Polestar 3 scored perfectly in the frontal offset and side impact crash tests with good protection for both six-year and ten-year old dummies. Contributing to the Polestar 3’s standout performance was the inclusion of a Child Presence Detection (CPD) system, which scored a perfect four out of four points. This system actively alerts the driver if a child is detected inside the vehicle after it has been locked.

Child Occupant Protection:

  • Score: 94%
  • Points: 46.22 out of 49

ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg praised the vehicle’s proactive features:

“Polestar delivers a stand-out for child occupant protection – both in its crash impact protection and proactive features like its direct child presence detection system.”

Strong adult protection in crash tests

The Polestar 3 also performed well in the Adult Occupant Protection category, scoring 90%, thanks to its solid crash structure. It performed well in the frontal and side impact tests offering good protection to both front occupants with the exception of adequate protection only for the driver’s legs.

Adult Occupant Protection:

  • Score: 90%
  • Points: 36.04 out of 40

Vulnerable road user and assist systems

The electric SUV includes a wide array of safety technologies, including:

  • Reverse Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Active bonnet for pedestrian protection
  • Autonomous emergency braking for forward and reversing scenarios
  • Lane support systems and speed assistance

While testing noted some limitations in front bonnet edge and windscreen pillar protection for pedestrians, the vehicle still scored 79% in Vulnerable Road User Protection and 79% for Safety Assist features.

Comprehensive safety backed by performance

With this result, the Polestar 3 joins the Polestar 2 in earning a five-star ANCAP rating, reinforcing the brand’s strong emphasis on occupant and road user safety.

The combination of high crash performance, intelligent driver aids, and thoughtful inclusions like CPD makes the Polestar 3 not just a high-tech EV, but one of the safest SUVs in its segment.
