Five separate recall notices were recently issued in Australia for a total of 1,257 units of Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks or utes imported by American Special Vehicles Pty Ltd (ASV). The recalls relate to two major safety issues with side curtain airbags and a software fault related to warnings in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

A software fault may cause the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) to fail to show important warnings about brake system warning lights, gear selection indicators, and other critical safety alerts. If these car warning lights do not appear, the driver may not know there is a serious problem, which increases the risk of an accident, potentially leading to injury or death of vehicle occupants or other road users.

Ram 1500 (DT), 2500 (DJ), and 3500 (D2) 2025

This recall of three Ram models highlights the same IPC software issue. The dashboard may fail to display brake warnings, gear indicators, and other key safety information. This may increase accident risk and lead to serious injury or death.

Ram 1500 (DS) 2019

There are three separate recall notices of Ram 1500 (DS), and all of them are based on a manufacturing defect that may cause the side curtain airbags inflator to rupture unexpectedly. The first recall notice concerns the right-side curtain airbag, the second is about the left-side curtain airbag, and the third recall notifies of both the left and right curtain airbag inflator defects.

If this happens, compressed gas and metal fragments could be forced through the airbag towards occupants, causing serious injury or death.
