If a car model has survived long enough, it eventually gets reimagined in a different body segment, and it seems that’s what lies ahead for the Lexus LS. The latest Lexus LS Concept debuts as a six-wheel people mover concept at the Japan Mobility Show, signaling a major design departure for its long-running LS sedan. Shown alongside the new LS Coupe Concept, the pair indicates a shift in the LS lineup as it moves under Toyota’s Century luxury brand.
The Lexus LS sedan will end production in 2026 with the LS500 AWD Heritage Edition, and these two concepts preview potential successors that push the model in completely new directions.
Design and space
The six-wheel LS Concept takes the “LS” name from Luxury Sedan to Luxury Space, highlighting a design philosophy centred on comfort, roominess, and innovation. The bus-like dual-axle rear setup is not just a gimmick but has a functional purpose too. Its unique six-wheel configuration allows for up to seven seats and improved packaging while maintaining a low centre of gravity for stability and ride comfort.
The exterior design features crisp, angular lines, a simplified illuminated spindle grille, and bold LED ‘Lexus’ lettering. The model features large front wheels with four smaller wheels at the rear, a raked windscreen, and sliding doors designed for easier cabin access.
Interior and features
The interior incorporates design elements inspired by modern Japanese aesthetics. The cabin incorporates bamboo privacy blinds, leather upholstery, and dual glass roof panels for an airy, refined atmosphere.
The second-row seats are designed to prioritise passenger comfort and privacy, while the third row maintains practicality with a usable cargo area behind it. Up front, the driver’s space combines a steering yoke, curved digital displays, and physical climate controls, blending futuristic technology with intuitive operation.
According to CALTY Design president Ian Cartabiano, the LS Concept is designed for “an age where space and privacy are priceless commodities.”
Powertrain and possibilities
While Lexus has not confirmed production plans, the LS concept has been engineered to support multiple powertrain types, including hybrid or internal combustion options. Detailed specifications have not been disclosed, but it would need ample oomph to propel its weight. For reference, the Lexus LM luxury van uses a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and hybrid tech in its top grade that offers a peak 273kW of power.

Future Outlook
The debut of the LS Concept and LS Coupe Concept marks a new chapter for the Lexus LS lineage. The concepts suggest a shift in how Lexus approaches its flagship models, exploring new forms and design directions within the Century brand framework.
