Subaru has unveiled two new Wilderness prototypes, the Forester Wilderness and Outback Wilderness, at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, displayed under the theme “Driving the Subaru Difference.”

The display forms part of Subaru’s Adventure Scene, one of two experiential spaces at the show, illustrating Subaru’s stated focus on performance and exploration. Both prototypes expand on Subaru’s well-known formula of rugged utility, all-wheel-drive confidence, and everyday practicality.

Forester Wilderness Prototype

The Forester Wilderness prototype brings a tougher, more utilitarian look to Subaru’s popular midsize SUV. It features unique bumpers, expanded wheel-arch cladding, and exclusive LED fog lamps, enhancing its off-road stance. Subaru says the prototype’s updates improve off-road capability compared with the standard Forester.

Outback Wilderness Prototype

Subaru describes the Outback Wilderness prototype as designed to “harmonise with nature,” with updates aimed at increasing off-road capability and practicality over the current model. The updates aim to elevate its rugged character, making it even more suitable for extended outdoor exploration.

Trailseeker BEV Prototype

Sharing the spotlight was the Trailseeker prototype, making its Japan premiere. The all-electric crossover represents Subaru’s second global BEV model, combining precise EV control with crossover practicality. Subaru says it has been developed for both urban and light off-road use, previewing the brand’s next step in electric mobility.

Subaru’s Adventure Vision for the Future

Scott Lawrence, Subaru Australia’s General Manager, said the display was intended to reflect the brand’s focus on both performance and adventure.

“This year’s Subaru exhibition isn’t just about sheet metal. It’s about energy — the thrill of the drive and the freedom of the journey,” he said. “These vehicles showcase Subaru’s relentless pursuit of engineering excellence while staying true to its heritage.”

Subaru said the three prototypes demonstrate its approach to combining innovation with its “Enjoyment and Peace of Mind” philosophy.
