Subaru has recalled 42 Forester Hybrid AWD examples from the year 2026 over a manufacturing defect in the transaxle that could cause the parking lock function to fail and the vehicle to move unexpectedly. Subaru Australia is contacting affected owners to book a service appointment to get this problem fixed free of charge.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

A manufacturing defect in the intermediate case of the transaxle may cause cracks to develop in the support section of the parking pawl and, in some cases, this can cause the parking lock function to be lost when the transmission shifts into Park (P).

Without the parking lock, the vehicle may move unexpectedly while parked, and this increases the risk of an accident, potentially causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, pedestrians or other road users.
