Subaru Australia has confirmed the facelifted Solterra electric SUV will arrive in local showrooms within weeks, offering improved performance, increased range, and updated technology, alongside lower prices than before.
The increased range is attributed to a larger 74.7kWh CATL-supplied battery (up from 71.4kWh), improved motor efficiency, and revised aerodynamics aimed at reducing energy consumption.
Pricing and range
| Variant | Price (before on-road costs) | Range |
| Subaru Solterra AWD | $63,990 (-$6,000) | 566km (+152km) |
| Subaru Solterra AWD Touring | $69,990 (-$6,000) | 517km (+103km) |
The two-variant lineup starts at $63,990 before on-road costs for the Solterra AWD (down $6,000), and $69,990 for the Touring (down $7,000). First deliveries are expected later this month.
More power and faster charging
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system now produces 252kW, making it the most powerful mainstream Subaru to date. The front motor alone now generates 167kW (up 87kW), while the rear produces 88kW (up 8kW). Subaru claims a 30 per cent increase in instantaneous torque, which is expected to deliver quicker acceleration and improved responsiveness.
AC charging capacity has been increased to 22kW (up from 11kW), while DC fast charging remains at 150kW, allowing a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in approximately 30 minutes.

Handling and dynamics
A new adaptive torque system adjusts power distribution between the front and rear motors to improve cornering stability and traction. Suspension revisions are also designed to deliver a more comfortable ride, particularly for rear passengers.
Interior and technology updates
Inside, the Solterra features Subaru’s large 14-inch touchscreen, shared with the Toyota bZ4X, along with a redesigned centre console that includes dual 15W wireless phone chargers.
Standard equipment includes:
- Synthetic leather upholstery
- Heated, power-adjustable front seats
- Heated steering wheel
- Digital rear-view mirror
- Driver monitoring system
- Subaru Safety Sense suite (adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring, traffic jam assist)
The Touring variant adds:
- Ventilated front seats
- “Natural leather” two-tone upholstery
- Panoramic glass roof
- 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio
- Subaru’s first Advanced Park Assist system
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality
Exterior design upgrades
Both variants include a new body-coloured front bumper, gloss-black wheel arch cladding, and updated 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels. The rear now carries a “SUBARU” wordmark in place of the traditional badge. Touring variants also offer two-tone paint options.
Subaru’s EV future in Australia
Subaru Australia says the updated Solterra represents the beginning of a new phase in the brand’s electrification strategy.
Subaru Australia General Manager Scott Lawrence said: “The 2026 Subaru Solterra is the first step in a new wave of high-tech, multi-powertrain Subarus arriving over the next six months.”
Globally, Subaru plans to introduce eight EVs by 2028, with the Solterra joined by the Uncharted and Trailseeker overseas. At least one future model is expected to be a Subaru-developed performance EV.
In Australia, Solterra sales remain limited, with 142 units sold so far in 2025, compared with 797 Toyota bZ4X units and nearly 18,000 Tesla Model Y units.
