The next-generation Suzuki Across has been revealed as a rebadged version of Toyota’s all-new RAV4, ahead of its European launch later this month. While the model is yet to be confirmed for Australia, Suzuki has expressed a strong interest in bringing the plug-in hybrid SUV to local showrooms.

The Suzuki Across follows the Toyota RAV4 into its new generation, adopting identical styling, features, and specifications, with the only visible differences being the Suzuki badges. The partnership allows Suzuki to meet increasingly strict global emissions regulations while offering customers access to Toyota’s latest electrified technology.

A familiar shape with new-generation tech

As with the outgoing model, the new Suzuki Across is essentially a Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid under the skin. The two vehicles share their exterior design, interior layout, and technology package, meaning Suzuki buyers receive the same levels of comfort, connectivity, and safety as Toyota customers.

Inside, the cabin features:

  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  •  Head-up display
  • 12.9-inch central touchscreen with climate controls, audio, and navigation functions

The design and layout mirror those of the latest Toyota RAV4, delivering a modern and tech-focused interior experience.

Plug-in hybrid power and improved range

Suzuki Across’s power comes from Toyota’s 2.5L petrol four-cylinder engine paired with front and rear electric motors, forming an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system. In European specification, the Across is offered with a 22.7kWh battery pack and a combined system output of 224kW.

Toyota claims up to 100km of all-electric driving range on the WLTP test cycle, marking an improvement over the outgoing model. This enhanced electric capability aims to deliver greater efficiency and reduced emissions, especially in urban driving.

Safety and technology

The Suzuki Across also benefits from a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

Standard safety equipment includes:

  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Emergency steering assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Front cross-traffic alert
  • Driver fatigue detection
  • 360-degree camera
  • Adaptive cruise control

These features align the Suzuki Across with the latest safety standards in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment.

Australian prospects

While the Suzuki Across has not yet been confirmed for Australia, the brand has previously acknowledged local interest in a larger SUV and electrified models.

Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota said in an interview last year: “It [Across] is a larger car than anything we have in our product portfolio in Australia, so obviously there would be demand for another Suzuki in a larger segment. And there is quite a high demand for that segment in Australia itself.”

“The whole purpose of the introduction of that car into the European market was based on the conditions of the emissions structure and control of the European market at the time. There was a joint decision between Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation at the time to join forces and do that.”

If approved for local sale, the Suzuki Across would become the brand’s largest model in Australia and its first plug-in hybrid, joining the mild-hybrid Swift hatch and Fronx small SUV.

Suzuki Across launch timing and colours

The new Suzuki Across will be offered in four exterior colours: Massive Grey Metallic, Ever Rest Metallic, Super White, and Attitude Black Metallic. European deliveries are scheduled to begin by the end of March, closely following the launch of the new Toyota RAV4.

Australian timing and pricing remain unconfirmed, but the arrival of the Across would give Suzuki a strong entry into the booming mid-size SUV and plug-in hybrid segments.
