Toyota has confirmed its most extreme Corolla hatch yet, the Toyota GRMN Corolla, for Australian showrooms in 2027, and it will arrive in very limited numbers. The new model is currently on display at the Fuji Motorsports Forest Welcome Centre until June 28, 2026.

This is not just a slightly sharper GR Corolla. The GRMN Corolla is a hardcore, limited-production, track-focused evolution of Toyota’s already-serious GR Corolla hot hatch. It is designed as the peak performance version of the Corolla nameplate, sitting at the top of Toyota’s performance ladder.

Toyota GRMN Corolla Australian pricing and release date

Toyota has confirmed the GRMN Corolla will come to Australia in 2027, but pricing has not yet been announced. For context, the manual GR Corolla GTS is currently priced from $67,990 (before on-road costs).

The hotter GRMN version is expected to sit closer to $80,000. That would make it one of the most expensive and exclusive Toyota hot hatches ever offered locally.

Nürburgring-developed, race-tested

Toyota developed the GRMN Corolla with a heavy focus on the Nürburgring, one of the world’s most demanding circuits. The goal was to create a car that could be controlled confidently at high speed, even on rough and unpredictable surfaces. Development sources included:

  • Nürburgring track testing
  • Japan’s Super Taikyu endurance racing series
  • Advanced driving simulators
  • Lessons from Toyota’s hydrogen-powered GR Corolla race car in the ST-Q class

Toyota says the Nürburgring exposed weaknesses that normal test courses would not. Some of the learnings have already influenced the regular 2026 GR Corolla. Toyota extended the use of structural adhesive by 13.9 metres to 32.7 metres and added a cool-air duct to reduce intake temperature during high-load driving.

Toyota GRMN Corolla powertrain and performance

Toyota has focused on mid-range punch, especially for corner exits. The key mechanical upgrades include:

  • Extra focus on the 3600–4800 rpm mid-speed range
  • Close-ratio transmission
  • Sub-radiator
  • Intercooler spray system
  • Cool-air duct from the 2026 GR Corolla
  • Stable output during continuous full-throttle driving

The focus is not just more power. Toyota wants the car to feel sharper when accelerating out of corners, where usable torque matters most.

What makes the Toyota GRMN Corolla different?

The GRMN Corolla takes the standard GR Corolla formula and strips it back, tightens it up and turns up the circuit focus. The key changes made in the GRMN model include:

2026 Toyota GR Corolla
  • Rear seats removed, turning it into a two-seater
  • 30kg weight reduction compared with the base vehicle
  • Retuned drivetrain, suspension and steering
  • New aero body kit, similar in spirit to the kit recently made available for the three-door GR Yaris
  • Higher engine torque, up by 15Nm over the base car
  • More track-focused cockpit, including exclusive bucket seats and a GRMN serial number plate

The car also echoes the earlier GR Corolla Morizo Edition, introduced in 2023. That model was also a two-seater, and Toyota Australia imported just 25 examples.

What the GRMN badge means

GRMN stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nürburgring. It is Toyota’s highest performance tier, sitting above regular GR models and well above GR Sport variants. The “MN” also honours the late Hiromu Naruse, Toyota’s legendary master test driver and mentor to Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda, also known as Morizo.

Aerodynamic upgrades in the Toyota GRMN Corolla

The GRMN Corolla’s aero package was developed using knowledge from Super Taikyu racing and then fine-tuned at the Nürburgring. Its key aero equipment includes:

  • Carbon-fibre engine bonnet
  • Carbon-fibre front fenders
  • Carbon-fibre front side spoilers
  • Carbon-fibre rear wing
  • Five-step rear-wing angle adjustment
  • Hood duct
  • Fender ducts
  • Dark Toyota emblems front and rear
  • GRMN-exclusive emblems front and rear

Toyota even adjusted the rear wing angle in one-degree increments during professional driver testing to find the best setup.

Suspension, tyres and steering

The GRMN Corolla has been tuned to stay stable and predictable under serious circuit loads. Its key chassis features and equipment include:

245/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres
  • Exclusive front and rear monotube shock absorbers
  • Internal rebound springs for better inner-wheel traction during cornering
  • Optimised bump-stop characteristics for rough Nürburgring-style surfaces
  • Shock absorber stroke adjusted down to the millimetre for front-rear balance
  • 245/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres
  • Tyres are 10 mm wider than those on the base vehicle
  • Exclusive electric power steering tuning
  • Exclusive 4WD control tuning
  • Improved rear torque distribution in a straight line
  • Better stability when steering at very high speeds

Toyota GRMN Corolla exterior: Colours and equipment

Special equipment listed for Japan includes:

  • Matte Bronze wheels with GR logo
  • Black Gravite body colour
  • Gravel body colour also confirmed for North America and Australia
  • GRMN-specific exterior and interior badging

Interior and cockpit of the Toyota GRMN Corolla

The cabin is more focused than a standard GR Corolla, but still designed around driver control rather than pure race-car harshness. Its interior features and equipment include:

  • Two-seat layout
  • GRMN-exclusive full bucket seats
  • Driver’s seat inspired by Super Taikyu race-car seating position
  • Glass fibre-reinforced polymer construction to reduce weight
  • Seat design developed with feedback from professional drivers
  • Flocked instrument panel
  • Flocked front pillars
  • Carbon-fibre passenger-side ornamentation
  • Instrument panel padding with Morizo’s signature
  • Door trim and shift knob accented in Alumite Red
  • GRMN-exclusive serial number plate
  • Two-seater exclusive strut brace
  • Cast iron black paint

Bottom line

The Toyota GRMN Corolla is shaping up as the most serious Corolla ever sold in Australia. It removes the rear seats, drops weight, adds carbon-fibre aero, gains Nürburgring-honed suspension, wider Michelin Cup 2 tyres, sharper steering, retuned 4WD control and a stronger 415 Nm engine tune.

With limited numbers, a likely price near $80,000, and a 2027 Australian arrival, this is less a regular hot hatch and more a factory-built track weapon for Toyota GR loyalists.
