Chery’s Omoda brand is gearing up to strengthen its Australian portfolio with three all-new SUVs—the Omoda 4, Omoda 5, and Omoda 7—each scheduled for production in 2026 and under consideration for local release by late that year.

Unveiled in China, the trio represents Omoda Jaecoo’s evolution into a standalone brand distinct from Chery, following the debut of the Omoda 9 PHEV in August 2025. Here’s a quick introduction to each of these new Omoda SUVs:

Omoda 4

The Omoda 4, a compact SUV slated for 2026 production and under consideration for Australia, is a renamed iteration of the Omoda 3 concept, measuring approximately 4.4 meters long and positioned as an entry-level option below the Omoda 5. It is expected to cost less than the Corolla Cross if Omoda 4 makes its debut in Australia.

Exterior design

The Omoda 4 embraces a striking “Cyber Mecha” design with sharp, angular lines, a borderless front grille, and sleek LED headlights integrated into a minimalist exterior design, complemented by LED taillights with a connected light bar. Its compact yet bold stance is enhanced by metallic finishes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and vibrant color options like Cosmic Black or Nebula Blue, with red accents on mirrors and side skirts for a sporty flair, creating a robotics-inspired aesthetic.

Interior and tech

Inside, the Omoda 4 features a tech-forward cabin with a large portrait-style infotainment touchscreen (likely 12.3-inch) paired with a slim 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior showcases premium leather-look and suede upholstery, a column-mounted gear selector, a ventilated wireless charging pad, diamond-shaped physical buttons, and configurable ambient lighting. Its safety package includes 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. In terms of practicality, the Omoda 4 has a boot capacity of approximately 280L, expandable via 60:40 split-folding rear seats, balancing practicality and style.

Performance specs

The Omoda 4 will offer several powertrain options globally, including petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric versions.

The standard 1.5L turbo-petrol engine produces around 115kW and 230Nm. A higher-performance version pairs a 105kW petrol unit with a 150kW electric motor for a total of 310Nm and a 0–100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

Local specifications are yet to be confirmed.

Omoda 5

Originally offered as the Chery Omoda 5 SUV, it is known for packing a lot of value in performance and tech for its price tag in Australia. The next-generation Omoda 5 is set for production in 2026, builds on the existing small SUV with a refreshed design and introduces a hybrid powertrain, potentially expanding the Omoda brand’s presence in Australia, where the current petrol and electric versions are sold as Chery C5 and E5. This update positions it as a versatile option in the competitive small SUV segment, with considerations for local release alongside the Omoda 4 and 7.

Exterior design

The refreshed Omoda 5 features an updated front exterior with body-colored elements replacing chrome accents on the grille, a revised bumper, and new alloy wheel designs. It loses those red highlight trim pieces for a cleaner, more modern look. It retains the signature “Art in Motion” styling, featuring a diamond matrix front grille, a slanted fastback-like rear roofline, and a double-layered spoiler. You can still get those signature Omoda 5 red accents on wheels, mirrors, doors, and spoilers when paired with colors like Lunar White or Saturn Silver.

Interior and tech

The interior has been revamped with a minimalist dashboard, updated door trims, centre console, and a column-mounted gear shifter shared with the electric variant. It includes dual 10.25-inch high-definition screens for digital instrument cluster and infotainment, synthetic leather upholstery, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Sony audio system, wireless charging, configurable ambient lighting. The safety kit includes advanced safety features like 6 airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. The cabin offers ample space, with 292L of boot capacity that can be expanded via 60:40 split-folding rear seats, as well as multiple storage compartments and USB ports.

Powered by the SHS-H series-parallel hybrid system (a standard HEV, not PHEV), it combines a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. However, local specifications are yet to be confirmed for the updated Omoda 5 SUV.

Omoda 7

This positions it as a premium, versatile option with a hybrid powertrain in the competitive mid-size segment, to rival models like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and BYD Sealion 6.

Exterior design

The Omoda 7 boasts a bold, futuristic exterior with a borderless parametric grille featuring illuminating hexagonal corner patterns, sharp LED headlights integrated into the front bumper, and a coupe-like silhouette accentuated by a distinctive rear fender kink and fastback roofline.

Its connected arrow-shaped taillights span the rear, complemented by a full-width light bar, aerodynamic 20-inch alloy wheels, and dynamic accents in colors like Matrix Grey or Aurora Green, delivering an “electric energy” aesthetic that emphasizes width and presence without chrome overload.

Interior and tech

Inside, the Omoda 7 elevates luxury with a movable 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that slides between driver and passenger sides, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and gaming-style front seats wrapped in genuine Nubuck leather upholstery with ventilation and massage functions. Additional highlights include a 12+2 Sony premium audio system, Intelligent Fragrance System, panoramic sunroof, heated/ventilated rear seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and over 20 ADAS features. Practical details for the Omoda 7 state that its spacious cabin comes with 520L boot space expandable to 1280L via 60:40 split-folding seats.

Availability in Australia

The Omoda 4, Omoda 5, and Omoda 7 are all under consideration for release in Australia, with potential debuts expected in late 2026 as part of Omoda Jaecoo’s expansion as a standalone brand separate from Chery.

The Omoda 4, a compact SUV aimed at younger buyers, could join the lineup as an affordable rival to the Toyota Corolla Cross, while the refreshed Omoda 5 hybrid and the mid-size Omoda 7 PHEV aim to strengthen Omoda’s presence in the competitive small and mid-size SUV segments, alongside the recently launched Omoda 9.

While final confirmation and specific powertrain options for Australia are yet to be announced, the global rollout of these models in 2026 positions them as exciting additions to Australia’s SUV market, with more details expected closer to their anticipated launch.
