Volkswagen Group Australia Pty Ltd has issued a safety recall (campaign number 48JP, recall reference REC-006592) affecting MY2024–MY2025 Volkswagen Golf, Tiguan and Tayron vehicles sold in Australia.
The recall, originally published on 23 April 2026, impacts a total of 5,931 vehicles across all variants of the affected models.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?
According to the recall notice, a software issue may cause the electric power steering system to become temporarily inoperable under certain driving conditions.
While steering will still function, drivers may experience a sudden and noticeable increase in steering effort, particularly when cornering.
Potential risks include:
- Increased steering effort without warning
- Reduced ease of vehicle control, especially in turns
- Higher risk of an accident leading to serious injury or death
Because steering assistance plays a key role in vehicle control, any unexpected change in effort can significantly increase the likelihood of a crash.
Which vehicles are affected?
- Make: Volkswagen
- Model: Golf, Tiguan, Tayron
- Variants: All variants
- Model Years: 2024-2025
- Total Affected Units in Australia: 5,931

- Update the electric power steering software
