The Volkswagen ID. Buzz Global Tour officially began on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Customer Centre in Hanover, Germany and Australia is one of the major stops. According to the official website, this tour is a “One road trip. One electric van. One world record,” global journey.

The tour aims to set a world record by travelling through 75 countries across continents, deserts, cities, and mountain ranges, and covering more than 80,000 kilometres in an electric vehicle. The van or microbus in focus here is the fully electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro LWB (long wheel base) and driven by a well-known long-distance driver and world record holder, Rainer Zietlow.

Volkswagen describes the tour as more than a road trip and wants to highlight zero-emissions driving, sustainable transport, Volkswagen’s engineering approach, and a future focused on electric mobility.

Why the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Tour matters for Australia?

Australia is a key milestone on this world tour and the Volkswagen ID. Buzz will visit Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane. Moreover, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz is no stranger to the Aussies, as it is a modern electric version of the iconic van, Volkswagen Kombi.

Rainer Zietlow holds two major Guinness World Records in Australia. In 2024, he achieved:

  • The largest GPS drawing by an EV, created in a Volkswagen ID.4 GTX
  • The fastest crossing of all 10 Australian deserts, driving a Volkswagen Amarok

VGA (Volkswagen Group Australia), through Karsten Seifert, says that the Volkswagen ID. Buzz not only revives a classic van but that EVs can be fun, practical, long-lasting, and can create emotional connections.

He adds, “The ID. Buzz is more than a vehicle: it’s a statement of progress, freedom and connection. On the Australian leg of Rainer’s world record journey, it’s proving that electric mobility isn’t just possible, it’s unstoppable.”

“From vibrant city streets to the toughest outback terrain, the ID. Buzz shows that sustainability and performance go hand in hand. This world record is on its way, and Australia is a defining chapter in proving that electric mobility knows no boundaries.”
