Nürburg, Germany – June 2025:

Xiaomi has officially broken the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for road-legal electric vehicles with its production-spec SU7 Ultra. Clocking an impressive 7:04.957, the Chinese tech brand’s flagship EV outpaced the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Rimac Nevera, cementing its place among the top performers at the famed German circuit.

From concept to certified: This time, It’s official

Unlike Xiaomi’s earlier run in 2024 using a track-only prototype, this lap time stands as an official record. The vehicle used was a fully road-legal production SU7 Ultra, equipped only with an optional track package – similar in spirit to Porsche’s Weissach Package. This distinction brings the record greater credibility and global recognition.

The new lap time shaved more than 2.5 seconds off the Taycan Turbo GT’s previous four-door record (7:07.55), and narrowly eclipsed the Rimac Nevera’s time by just 0.3 seconds, making it the fastest production EV to ever lap the Nordschleife.

Matching hypercars, beating icons

The SU7 Ultra’s pace was not just limited to electric competitors. It came dangerously close to lap times set by renowned combustion-powered sports cars like the Porsche 911 GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro, and Porsche Cayman GT4 RS — vehicles long considered benchmarks of track performance.

Refined for the road, engineered for the track

Though less extreme than its 2024 prototype counterpart developed with Prodrive, the production SU7 Ultra retains an aggressive aerodynamic profile. Compared to the prototype’s extensive modifications — including a carbon-fibre body, stripped interior, and slick tyres — the road car maintains daily usability while still delivering high performance.

Key aerodynamic elements include:

  • Smaller front splitter
  • Revised bonnet design
  • Active rear diffuser
  • Less aggressive rear wing

Despite its road-legal form, Xiaomi claims the SU7 Ultra produces 285kg of downforce at 350km/h, while achieving a top speed of 346km/h during its record-setting run.

Tri-motor powerhouse: Specs that speak volumes

Powering the SU7 Ultra is a tri-motor setup delivering supercar-rivalling performance:

A disruptive price point

While the SU7 Ultra delivers elite-level performance, it’s offered at a fraction of its rivals’ price. In China, it retails for 814,900 Yuan (~A$174,000). In comparison, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package commands over A$416,000 before on-road costs in Australia.

The rise of Xiaomi in performance EVs

Xiaomi’s latest Nürburgring triumph signals a shift in the EV performance landscape. With this record-breaking run, the SU7 Ultra has proven that China’s emerging electric marques are not only competitive — they’re leading the charge.

As Xiaomi continues to expand its automotive footprint, the SU7 Ultra’s Nürburgring success could mark the beginning of a broader performance EV push that challenges legacy brands at their own game.
