XPENG Australia has confirmed it is working with the Australian Automotive Service and Repair Authority (AASRA) to support Australia’s right-to-repair laws, a move that will eventually give independent workshops access to eligible service and repair information for XPENG vehicles.

Announced on 22 June 2026, the initiative supports the Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme (MVIS), Australia’s right-to-repair framework that aims to give vehicle owners greater freedom to choose where they service and repair their vehicles.

XPENG joins Australia’s MVIS framework

XPENG ANZ said it is working with AASRA to support the sharing of eligible service and repair information in line with MVIS requirements.

Introduced in 2022, the MVIS legislation requires vehicle manufacturers to make certain service and repair information available to independent workshops as well as authorised dealer networks. The scheme was designed to improve competition within the automotive repair industry and provide consumers with greater servicing choice.

Through its participation, XPENG will support both authorised and independent repairers with access to eligible repair information as required under the framework.

What it means for XPENG owners in Australia

For Australian XPENG owners, the move could help broaden servicing and repair options as the brand continues to expand its local footprint.

Access to manufacturer repair information allows qualified independent workshops to diagnose, service and repair vehicles using the same technical data available to authorised repair networks. This can be particularly beneficial for owners located outside major metropolitan areas where authorised service facilities may be less accessible.

XPENG said its technical onboarding process with AASRA is expected to be completed over the coming months.

XPENG says customer choice is important

XPENG ANZ National Service Development Manager Brenton Dalton said supporting the right-to-repair initiative aligns with the company’s approach to customer ownership and aftersales support.

“Supporting the Right to Repair is the right thing to do. Customers should have the freedom to choose where they service their vehicle, and we support initiatives that improve access to repair information,” Dalton said.

“Our role is to support customer choice while earning preference through the quality, transparency and convenience of the authorised XPENG service experience.”

Dalton added that the company will continue working with AASRA and the wider automotive industry to support access to eligible repair information under the MVIS scheme.

Growing commitment to the Australian market

XPENG ANZ is a wholly owned subsidiary of XPeng Inc., the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer that has been expanding into international markets, including Australia and New Zealand.

The company’s participation in the MVIS framework signals a further commitment to the Australian market as it continues to grow its vehicle lineup, service network and customer support operations locally.

By supporting Australia’s right-to-repair ecosystem, XPENG joins a growing list of automotive brands helping improve access to repair information for independent workshops while giving consumers more choice over how and where they maintain their vehicles.
