What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

According to the recall notice, the affected vehicles may have been fitted with incorrect wheel bolts that do not meet the required specifications.

As a result, the bolts could loosen over time, potentially causing the wheel to shift from its intended position. This creates a serious safety risk, as it may lead to a sudden loss of vehicle control while driving.

Potential risks include:

  • Wheel bolts loosening during operation
  • Wheel misalignment or shifting direction
  • Loss of control of the vehicle
  • Increased risk of an accident, potentially resulting in serious injury or death

Because wheel attachment is critical to vehicle stability and handling, any failure in this area significantly raises the danger for both occupants and other road users.

Which vehicles are affected?

  • Make: Mercedes-Benz
  • Model: G580 EQ
  • Variants: All variants
  • Model Years: 2024-2025
  • Total Affected Units in Australia: 106

A list of affected VINs has been published. Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ owners are encouraged to check if their vehicle is included in the recall.

What should owners do now?

Mercedes-Benz will contact affected owners in writing, advising them to schedule an appointment with an authorised dealership.

At the dealership, technicians will:

  • Inspect the wheel bolts
  • Replace components as necessary

All repairs will be carried out free of charge once parts become available.
