Volkswagen has issued a safety recall for the Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Volkswagen Tayron over an issue affecting the power steering during driving. These vehicles form the backbone of Volkswagen’s passenger car lineup locally.
Golf is a benchmark in the small-car and hot-hatch segment. Tiguan is the brand’s most popular SUV in Australia, and Tayron is the new large seven-seat SUV replacing the Tiguan Allspace. This notice comes after another 23rd April recall for the same models and issue.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

The Volkswagen’s recall centres on a software fault affecting the power steering motor system. Under certain driving conditions, the system may not operate as intended, which can cause a sudden increase in steering effort while driving.
If steering effort suddenly increases, the vehicle may become harder to control, especially at lower speeds or during manoeuvres. This raises the risk of an accident, potentially leading to serious injury or worse for vehicle occupants and other road users.
