The latest Kia Sportage has barely rolled onto Australian roads, and it’s already facing a major safety recall. According to the latest announcement from Kia Australia, a manufacturing fault in the high-pressure fuel pipe of certain MY2025 NQ5 Sportage models may lead to fuel leakage, posing a serious risk of fire.
The recall affects 605 vehicles fitted with the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine and built for the 2024 model year. The issue was officially published on July 4, 2025, under recall number REC-006373.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

At the heart of this recall is a poorly manufactured high-pressure fuel pipe, which forms part of the engine’s fuel delivery system. When this pipe doesn’t seal properly, it may cause petrol to leak. This can be especially dangerous in high-temperature environments or near ignition sources.
A fuel leak under the bonnet is more than just a mechanical inconvenience; it’s a direct threat to safety. The presence of leaked fuel in the engine bay increases the risk of fire, potentially leading to injury or even death for vehicle occupants and other road users.

This isn’t a routine update or optional upgrade — it’s a critical safety fix that should be completed as soon as possible.
