BMW says the new 7 Series is its most extensive update yet. Now in its seventh generation, the model integrates technologies from BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse platform, signalling the direction for future models across the lineup.

The 7 Series has been a benchmark in the luxury segment since its debut in 1977, and BMW continues to position it as a technology leader.

New design with a stronger presence

The updated model adopts BMW’s latest luxury design language. It features a more sculpted, monolithic exterior, redesigned lighting, and the illuminated kidney grille.

Buyers can choose from 20-inch to 22-inch wheels, along with M Sport and M Performance variants for a sportier look. BMW also offers expanded personalisation options, including new dual-finish paintwork.

Interior focuses on comfort and technology

Inside, BMW has focused on combining premium materials with advanced tech. The cabin includes leather, wood, metal, and crystal elements, along with improved ergonomics.

Key features include:

  • New Panoramic iDrive system
  • Passenger display screen
  • Theatre Screen for rear-seat entertainment
  • Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos
  • Ambient lighting upgrades
  • Four-zone climate control and panoramic sunroof

BMW has also enhanced seating comfort with options like the Executive Lounge package.

New infotainment and digital features

The 7 Series introduces BMW Operating System X with improved voice control via the Intelligent Personal Assistant, now integrating Amazon Alexa AI.

Other highlights include:

  • Updated navigation with BMW Maps
  • Smartphone integration
  • Digital Key Plus
  • Over-the-air updates

Rear passengers benefit from 8K streaming, gaming, and video call capabilities through the Theatre Screen.

Multiple powertrain options, including EV

BMW continues to offer a wide range of drivetrains:

  • Mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines
  • Plug-in hybrid variants
  • Fully electric models

The electric version, including the BMW i7, now delivers over 720 km (WLTP) of range, thanks to new sixth-generation battery technology.

Improved driver assistance and safety

BMW has expanded its driver assistance features with increased use of AI.

New and updated systems include:

  • Hands-free driving at speeds up to 130 km/h (in select regions)
  • City navigation-assisted driving
  • Enhanced parking assistance with AI
  • Improved driver visualisation via navigation

Comfort and driving dynamics

The BMW 7 Series continues to balance performance and ride comfort. It comes standard with adaptive air suspension and offers optional advanced chassis systems for improved handling and stability.

Armoured version in development

BMW is also preparing an armoured version, the 7 Series Protection. It offers high-level security with VR9 certification and specialised materials designed to protect occupants from ballistic and explosive threats.

Focus on sustainability

BMW says it has improved sustainability across the 7 Series lifecycle. This includes:

  • Increased use of recycled materials
  • Renewable energy in production
  • Reduced CO₂ emissions, especially in EV models

Production and launch timeline

BMW will build all variants of the new 7 Series at its Dingolfing plant in Germany.

The model made its global debut on 22 April 2026, with production starting soon after. The global market launch is scheduled for July 2026.
