Geely is preparing to shake up Australia’s plug-in hybrid SUV market with the arrival of the 2026 Starray EM-i, priced from $39,990 before on-road costs. It’s not exactly a name that rolls off the tongue, but certainly a model worth looking out for. Ahead of its showroom debut later this year, pricing has surfaced on the industry database Redbook, positioning the Starray EM-i as one of the most affordable PHEVs currently available.

Pricing in Australia
Variant | Price (before on-roads) |
Starray EM-i Complete FWD | $39,990 |
Starray EM-i Inspire FWD | $42,990 |
At this price point, the Geely Starray EM-i undercuts rivals including the BYD Sealion 6 Essential ($42,990 plus on-roads), MG HS Super Hybrid Excite ($52,990 drive-away), and Geely’s own EX5 EV by $1000. Additionally, a $1,000 discount is available for customers who pre-order with a $1,000 deposit.
The Starray EM-i will be offered in six colours, with Alpine White included as standard and Polar Black, Cloudveil Silver, Volcanic Grey, Glacier Blue and Jungle Green available for an additional $600 each.

Powertrain: Long range, frugal fuel use
The Geely Starray EM-i pairs a petrol engine with an electric motor for peak efficiency:
Engine | 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol (73kW/125Nm) |
Electric motor | 160kW/262Nm |
Battery | 18.4kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) |
Transmission/Drive | Front-wheel drive |
Performance and range:

Electric-only range (WLTP) | 83km |
Combined driving range | 943km |
Fuel consumption | 2.4L/100km |
Fuel type | 95RON premium unleaded |
This makes the Geely Starray EM-i a practical option for commuters who can cover daily driving on electric power alone, while retaining petrol backup for longer trips.
Dimensions

The Geely Starray EM-i is slightly larger than its EX5 electric sibling, with measurements of 4,740 mm x 1,905 mm x 1,685 mm x 2,755 mm. Compared to the Geely EX5, the Starray EM-i is 125mm longer, 15mm taller, 4mm wider, and rides on a 5mm longer wheelbase.
