Honda Australia has expanded its HR-V lineup with the new 2026 Honda HR-V e:HEV RS. Sitting at the top of the range, the RS becomes the fourth HR-V variant available in Australia and the third to feature Honda’s e hybrid technology.
The announcement follows a strong period for the HR-V SUV, with sales increased by 44% during 2025. The new HR-V hybrid variant is positioned to carry this momentum with its RS-specific styling, a strong standard equipment list, hybrid efficiency and pricing that undercuts key rivals from Hyundai and Toyota.

Honda continues its hybrid push
According to Robert Thorp, Director of Automotive at Honda Australia, the new RS variant plays a key role in the company’s growing hybrid strategy.
Honda has been steadily expanding its hybrid portfolio in Australia, with electrified variants now offered across the HR-V, CR-V and ZR-V line-ups.
Honda expects hybrids to account for more than 80% of its Australian sales by the end of the year.
Why the HR-V model matters for Honda

The HR-V has become one of Honda Australia’s most important volume models. The addition of the RS allows Honda to offer a broader spread of price points and equipment levels while further reducing its reliance on conventional petrol-only models.
The strategy also aligns with broader industry trends, where hybrid demand continues to grow as buyers seek improved fuel efficiency without committing to a full battery-electric vehicle.
