Key highlights:
- Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid gains an expected 165kW turbo option in 2027
- Claimed fuel consumption remains 5.4L/100km
- Facelift adds larger 12.3-inch screens and revised exterior styling
Australia’s top-selling small SUV is set to get a significant power boost, with the Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid due to gain a new turbocharged petrol-electric powertrain in 2027. Borrowed from the closely related Jaecoo J5 hybrid, the new setup is expected to produce 165kW and 295Nm combined, while retaining a claimed fuel consumption figure of 5.4L/100km.
The update will also bring revised exterior styling, larger interior screens and redesigned air-conditioning controls, while the existing non-turbo hybrid is expected to remain available in cheaper grades. Chery Australia is rolling out the updated small SUV range in two distinct phases; core lineup arrives by late 2026, and the range-topping turbo hybrid option arrives in early 2027.

Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid: New turbo powertrain
The new turbo-hybrid option is expected to sit at the top of the Tiggo 4 range rather than replace the current non-turbo hybrid. Chery has yet to confirm pricing, but the new variant will presumably replace or sit above the current top-spec Tiggo 4 Hybrid, which is listed at $34,394 drive-away in Victoria.
It is expected to remain cheaper than the Jaecoo J5 hybrid, priced at $34,990 drive-away.
Specifications are also yet to be officially confirmed for Australia. However, information shared with Australian media in China indicates the new powertrain will deliver a combined 165kW and 295Nm.
| Specification | New turbo hybrid | Current non-turbo hybrid |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder | 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder |
| Engine output | 105kW / 215Nm | 71kW / 120Nm |
| Motor output | 150kW / 310Nm | 150kW / 310Nm |
| System output | 165kW / 295Nm | Not specified |
| Fuel consumption | 5.4L/100km | 5.4L/100km |
The new system combines a 105kW/215Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a 150kW/310Nm electric motor. That electric motor is the same unit used in the current hybrid, but the turbocharged petrol engine delivers a substantial increase over the existing non-turbo engine’s 71kW and 120Nm.
Despite the added power, the new version is expected to retain the current hybrid’s claimed fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km.
Facelift brings revised styling
The updated Tiggo 4 will also receive exterior changes when it arrives in Australia in the coming months. Chery has revealed a revised front fascia with a sportier front bumper, accompanied by updated wheel designs.
The changes will give the small SUV a refreshed appearance without introducing an entirely new model generation.

Bigger screens and updated climate controls

The cabin will also get a technology update. Australian models currently use 10.25-inch displays, but the facelift will replace these with a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
Chery has also revised the air-conditioning control panel, moving the temperature readouts to the central display.
When will the updated Tiggo 4 arrive in Australia?
The facelifted Chery Tiggo 4 is due in Australia in the coming months, while the new turbocharged hybrid powertrain is slated to arrive in 2027. Chery has yet to confirm Australian pricing, the full standard equipment list or final local specifications, and more details are expected closer to the release date.
