Mercedes-Benz is giving its 2027 EQS electric limousine a major update with an 810km WLTP range, making it the longest claimed range of any EV currently available in Australia.
That figure edges past the BMW iX3’s 805km and the Tesla Model 3 Premium Long Range RWD’s 750km, and the updated 2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS also gets a cheaper entry point, faster charging and a new single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain.
The facelifted EQS drops significantly in price compared to its predecessor to actively challenge both traditional electric limousines and high-end electric grand tourers, but its direct rival in Australia is the much more expensive BMW i7 xDrive60.
Powertrain and performance: 810km range sets a new benchmark
The EQS400 uses an updated 800-volt electrical architecture and a single electric motor mounted at the rear, which produces 270kW and 505Nm, giving it more power but considerably less torque than the outgoing EQS450.
The EQS400 takes 6.2 seconds to reach 100km/h, compared with 5.6 seconds for the previous EQS450.

Its smaller 112kWh battery nevertheless delivers a much longer claimed range of 810km WLTP, which is the longest EV driving range available in Australia right now, matching the upcoming Volvo EX60 P12’s electric range.
The Volvo EX60 P12 will not arrive in Australia until 2027, while the updated EQS400 reaches local showrooms this month.

A drag coefficient as low as 0.20Cd helps the EQS400 achieve that range figure.
The updated architecture also improves DC fast-charging performance from 200kW to 350kW and a 10-minute charge can add up to 320km of range.
A grander exterior
Mercedes-Benz has given the updated EQS a more formal-looking front end. The updates include:
- Reshaped bonnet
- Additional chrome accents
- New grille with a Mercedes-Benz star pattern
- New Digital Light headlights
- Full-width rear light strip
- New helix elements in the rear lighting
- More aggressive rear bumper inspired by AMG models
The new Digital Light headlights come standard on the EQS400 and the brand says they create a 40% larger high-resolution illumination field while using up to 50% less energy than the previous system.
Their Ultra Range high-beam mode can project light up to 600 metres ahead.
The cornering-light function also uses information from the car’s cameras and mapping data to respond more precisely to the road ahead.
The sportier $6,000 AMG Line package will add 21-inch AMG alloy wheels.

55-inch Hyperscreen dominates the cabin
The cabin continues to centre around Mercedes-Benz’s 55-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, and it combines three separate displays beneath one continuous expanse of glass.
A new Mercedes-Benz Operating System runs on an AI-enabled supercomputer which delivers faster responses from the MBUX Virtual Assistant and supports over-the-air software updates.
The EQS400 also gets a 15-speaker, 710W Burmester 3D surround-sound system.
Rear passengers receive heated and power-adjustable seats, along with wireless phone charging.
A $6900 Comfort Plus Package adds Multicontour front seats, a heated steering wheel, heat- and noise-insulating laminated glass.
The AMG Line package will add illuminated door sills, AMG floor mats, comfort seats, a Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, and galvanised shift paddles.
Air suspension can prepare for bumps
Australian EQS400 models come standard with 21-inch alloy wheels and Airmatic air suspension with adaptive damping, which works with the cloud-based Car-to-X data that can identify speed bumps and other detected road-surface irregularities.
Steer-by-wire costs $7500
Buyers can add the comfortable steer-by-wire steering technology for $7500 and the EQS400 becomes the first production passenger vehicle from a German manufacturer to offer the technology.
The system removes the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and front wheels and also pairs with a flattened, yoke-style steering wheel.
Mercedes-Benz says the system improves precision and manoeuvrability while reducing the steering effort required from the driver.
It works alongside standard rear-axle steering, which can turn the rear wheels by up to 10 degrees.
New EQS400 sedan cuts the entry price
The refreshed EQS arrives in Australian showrooms in September 2026 with the new entry-level EQS400 sedan variant.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has priced it from $184,900 before on-road costs, making it the cheapest EQS sedan offered in Australia since the model launched locally in 2021.
It also costs $35,000 less than the previous entry-level EQS450, which carried a $219,900 price tag plus on-road costs.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has only announced pricing and specifications for the EQS400 so far, but has not confirmed whether an updated replacement for the EQS450 will arrive.
It has also not confirmed whether the Mercedes-AMG EQS53 4Matic+, previously sold locally from $327,075 plus ORCs, will return.
