Key highlights:

  • Its 320kW powertrain delivers 680Nm and 0–100km/h in 5.6 seconds
  • EV range reaches 87km in SUV form and 91km as a Coupe

Mercedes-Benz Australia has added a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to its updated GLE large SUV range, bringing strong performance and electric-only driving at a price well below the AMG-tuned GLE 53. The new 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e PHEV is on sale now and is available in SUV and Coupe body styles, with prices starting at $156,900 before on-road costs.

Its 25.7kWh battery delivers up to 91km of claimed electric-only range, depending on body style. The price announcement also finalises the Australian GLE lineup, which includes seven variants across SUV and Coupe body styles.

Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e performance details

The GLE 450e combines a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol inline-six engine with an electric motor, and together, they produce 320kW and 680Nm.

That puts it just 10kW below the GLE 53 AMG, but gives it 80Nm more torque. The hybrid takes 5.6 seconds to accelerate from 0–100km/h, making it 0.7 seconds slower than the GLE 53.

Its battery allows drivers to cover the claimed electric-only distance without using petrol, provided the battery has sufficient charge and driving conditions support the quoted range.

Exterior styling and equipment

The GLE 450e carries much of the same exterior sheet metal as the updated fourth-generation GLE, and the company has also included its AMG Line exterior styling and Night Package as standard, giving the plug-in hybrid a sportier appearance. The SUV rides on 20-inch AMG wheels, while the Coupe gets wheels one inch larger.

Standard cabin equipment includes:

  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • Push-button start
  • Head-up display
  • Burmester sound system
  • 12.3-inch MBUX infotainment display

The Coupe also receives the AMG Line Sports Seats Package, featuring suede-like microfibre inserts.
