Key highlights:

  • Xpeng G9L EREV claims up to 1200km of combined range
  • 7-seat cabin offers Nappa leather, massage seats and premium audio
  • Australian arrival due next month, with EV and EREV options

Xpeng has revealed more details of its upcoming G9L large SUV ahead of its Australian arrival next month. The new model will offer all-electric (EV) and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains, with the latter claiming up to 1200km of combined range.

It also promises a technology-packed cabin, premium seating across three rows and advanced driver-assistance systems. The G9L will take on large electric SUVs such as the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90 with its spacious cabin, powertrain innovation, and advanced AI integration, although Australian pricing and final specifications remain unconfirmed.

XPeng used the global stage of the 2026 Paris Motor Show to release the official local specifications and deployment details for the G9L.

Xpeng G9L: Size and positioning

The G9L measures 5.12 metres long and rides on a 3100mm wheelbase, and Xpeng designed the large SUV to deliver generous passenger space, premium features and long-distance touring capability. It will join Xpeng’s expanding Australian range and sit below the larger six- and seven-seat Xpeng GX, which is due here sometime in 2027.

The large SUV ditches the overly aggressive look and looks premium through seamless body proportions.

Xpeng has confirmed both EV and EREV powertrains for the G9L, but it hasn’t announced the full specifications or exact configurations destined for Australia.

The front is smooth and uncluttered and gives a wider look, with headlights tucked low into the bumper. The side profile prioritises aerodynamics and looks minimalistic, with practical elements like the hidden water trims, stepless side windows, and flush door handles.

EREV powertrain: Up to 1200km of claimed range

Xpeng has detailed its Kunpeng Super Electric range-extender system, which uses a petrol engine to generate electricity rather than mechanically drive the wheels. The G9L combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which acts solely as a generator, with an electric motor that drives the wheels.

SpecificationXpeng G9L EREV
Engine1.5-litre turbocharged petrol
Battery63kWh LFP
EV range287km (WLTP)
Combined rangeUp to 1200km
System output430kW / 695Nm
0-100km/h5.4 seconds
DC charging Up to 5C
DC charging time10%-80% in 12 minutes

Xpeng has yet to confirm whether these figures apply to the Australian-market version.

The 800V electrical architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 5C, and under suitable conditions, Xpeng says the battery can charge from 10 to 80% in approximately 12 minutes.

The energy management system adjusts how the battery and petrol-powered generator work together according to driving conditions. Xpeng has also developed noise-cancellation technology to minimise the difference in cabin sound between range-extender and battery-electric operation.

The pure-electric G9L will join the range as well, but Xpeng hasn’t released its specifications.

The G9L combines several chassis technologies designed to support ride comfort and manoeuvrability.

Rear suspensionH-arm multi-link

Rear-wheel steeringYes

Rear-wheel steering should help the large SUV manoeuvre in tighter spaces, while its dual-chamber air suspension and continuous damping control manage the ride.

Three-row cabin focuses on passenger comfort

Xpeng has packed the G9L’s cabin with comfort and entertainment features, including a seven-seat configuration.

  • Front seats: Nappa leather upholstery, heating, ventilation, 16-point massage and adaptive side bolsters. The front passenger also gets a zero-gravity seat.
  • Second row: Power adjustment, heating, 10-point massage and electric sunshades.
  • Third row: Power-adjustable, heated seats.

Other cabin features include a 26-speaker premium audio system, an integrated refrigerator and multiple passenger entertainment displays. Xpeng says the cabin aims to provide premium comfort across all three rows, rather than concentrating the equipment solely around the driver and front passenger.

The G9L will use Xpeng’s XOS 6.0 infotainment system, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor, and it features a five-screen interface and over-the-air software update capability.

The infotainment system adds to the SUV’s focus on connected technology and passenger entertainment.

The G9L will feature Xpeng’s latest driver-assistance technology, including Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP), powered by the company’s Turing AI chips. Xpeng plans to introduce additional capabilities through a future over-the-air software update, which include:

  • Assisted driving on urban roads and highways
  • Navigation-based driving assistance
  • Assisted lane changes
  • Traffic-light recognition
  • More advanced parking functions

Xpeng describes NGP as a supervised driver-assistance system, not a fully autonomous driving system, and drivers will still need to supervise its operation. The company is also testing it locally now.

However, the availability and scope of these features in Australia will depend on local regulations and the timing of the software rollout.

Xpeng Australia’s expanding model range

The G9L is part of a broader expansion of Xpeng’s Australian lineup, and the Chinese brand is also evaluating the second-generation P7 electric liftback, but it hasn’t confirmed a local launch.

For the G9L, the key question for Australian buyers will be which configurations Xpeng brings here, and how it prices it against established large SUVs such as the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90.
