The Renault Megane E-Tech is set to receive its most significant update since launching, with Renault Australia confirming the facelifted electric SUV will arrive in local showrooms during the first half of 2027.

The updated model brings a larger battery, increased driving range, faster charging speeds and a redesigned exterior, helping the French EV remain competitive in Australia’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.

According to Renault Australia, local pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the model’s launch.

Longer range and faster charging

Headlining the update is a new 67kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, replacing the previous unit and boosting the Renault Megane E-Tech’s claimed WLTP driving range to up to 500km.

That’s an increase of 46km over the current model sold overseas.

The larger battery has also enabled improvements in charging performance. Maximum DC fast-charging capability rises from 130kW to 165kW, allowing the battery to charge from 15 to 80 per cent in around 24 minutes under ideal conditions.

The facelifted Renault Megane E-Tech also supports bidirectional charging technology. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality can power external appliances at up to 3.7kW, while vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability allows energy to be fed back into the electricity network where supported.

A heat pump and battery pre-conditioning system are now fitted as standard, helping improve charging efficiency and battery performance in varying conditions.

One-pedal driving added

Renault has also introduced one-pedal driving for the updated Megane E-Tech, allowing drivers to accelerate and slow the vehicle using only the accelerator pedal in most situations.

While the battery and charging systems have been upgraded, the electric motor remains unchanged.

Power continues to come from a front-mounted electric motor producing 160kW and 300Nm, although Renault quotes a slightly slower 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.6 seconds, compared with 7.4 seconds previously.

Sharper styling inside and out

Visually, the facelifted Renault Megane E-Tech receives a more aggressive front-end design.

A redesigned bonnet, new grille treatment and a distinctive lighting signature featuring diamond-shaped LED elements help differentiate the updated model from its predecessor.

Renault says the new design improves the vehicle’s visual presence, while revised front and rear bumpers add a sportier appearance.

At the rear, the full-width light bar remains, but adopts a new three-dimensional design. The rear bumper has also been reshaped with diffuser-inspired detailing.

The larger battery pack has resulted in the Renault Megane E-Tech sitting 20mm higher than before.

Larger screens and Google-based technology

Inside, all versions now feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The system runs Renault’s OpenR software built on Google’s Automotive operating system, bringing integrated Google Maps navigation, access to the Google Play Store and Google’s Gemini AI assistant.

A camera mounted in the A-pillar can recognise individual drivers and automatically adjust settings such as seat position, media preferences and infotainment configurations.

Wireless smartphone charging has also been upgraded to the faster Qi2 standard.

Improved safety technology

The facelift introduces updates to Renault’s driver assistance systems.

Adaptive cruise control can now better detect surrounding vehicles, while the digital instrument display provides a more detailed visual representation of lane markings and nearby traffic.

The Renault Megane E-Tech is also capable of bringing itself to a controlled stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.

Simplified range

In Europe, Renault has simplified the Megane E-Tech range to two variants: Techno and Esprit Alpine.

The Techno grade features new 19-inch alloy wheels and upgraded interior materials, while the flagship Esprit Alpine adds unique 20-inch wheels, sportier styling elements, massaging front seats, a Harman Kardon audio system and additional driver assistance technologies.

Australian specifications have yet to be confirmed, though a similar lineup is expected when the facelifted Renault Megane E-Tech arrives locally in 2027.

With more range, faster charging and upgraded technology, the updated Megane E-Tech aims to strengthen Renault’s position in Australia’s increasingly competitive electric SUV market.
