Key highlights:

  • Smart #5 starts at $58,900 before on-road costs
  • Mid-spec Premium+ offers 590km WLTP range and 267kW
  • Topper Brabus produces 475kW and reaches 100km/h in 3.8 seconds

The 2027 Smart #5 electric family SUV finally has Australian pricing and specifications, ahead of its arrival in local showrooms in November 2026 and is ready to take on the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X and Mercedes-Benz GLB. The Smart brand is owned by familiar carmakers: Geely and Mercedes-Benz.

The premium mid-size SUV also shares its underlying architecture with the Zeekr 7X, making the two close mechanical twins. Starting at $58,900 before on-road costs, the #5 Pro+ costs $1000 more than the entry-level Zeekr 7X Rear-Wheel Drive. However, Smart gives it the larger 94kWh usable battery from the outset.

Same 2900mm wheelbase as the Zeekr

The #5 sits on Geely’s dedicated 800-volt SEA3 electric-car architecture and measures slightly shorter from nose to tail than the Zeekr 7X but shares its 2900mm wheelbase.

The same wheelbase will also underpin the Zeekr 7GT wagon, which is due in Australia early next year.

The #5 also has similar dimensions and proportions to the latest Mercedes-Benz GLB electric SUV, and Smart says Mercedes-Benz designed the #5, but the two SUVs have no mechanical relationship.

Pro+ starts with a 100kWh battery

The entry-level Pro+ uses a 100kWh total-capacity nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, with 94kWh usable, paired with a single rear electric motor. The base variant also gets Eco, Comfort and Sport drive modes.

Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-speaker sound system and a panoramic glass roof.

The cabin uses black synthetic leather-look upholstery and a synthetic leather-look steering wheel. Other standard features include wireless smartphone charging, an electric tailgate, power-folding side mirrors with memory and reverse auto-dipping, acoustic front and rear glass, rain-sensing wipers and dual-zone climate control.

A six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat gets electric lumbar support, while the passenger seat gets four-way power adjustment and electric lumbar support. The seats in the SUV fold flat in camping mode to form a small room to lie down.

The Pro+ comes with a long list of driver-assistance and safety systems, which include:

Premium+ adds more luxury

The mid-spec Premium+ variant builds on the Pro+ with larger 20-inch alloy wheels and a 13-inch passenger touchscreen.

It also gets a 20-speaker Sennheiser sound system, augmented-reality head-up display, rear privacy glass, PM2.5 air purification and a heat pump.

The exterior gains illuminated door handles and door sills, while the electric tailgate gains a hands-free function.

Inside, buyers can choose leather upholstery in black, brown or caramel, depending on the exterior colour. Ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats, a leather steering wheel and dual wireless smartphone chargers also join the equipment list.

Brabus brings 475kW and 3.8 seconds

The range-topping Brabus switches to dual-motor all-wheel drive and produces a combined 475kW and 710Nm and Smart claims a 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a 540km WLTP range.

Despite the extra performance, the Brabus receives no changes to the brakes or suspension compared with the rear-wheel-drive model.

It adds Brabus exterior styling, 21-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, simulated engine sound, sports pedal covers, Dinamica suede-look upholstery and a sports steering wheel with an Alcantara wrap.

Smart #5 Australian pricing

The $63,900 Premium+ matches the price of the Zeekr 7X Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. However, its 590km WLTP range and 267kW/373Nm rear motor fall short of the Zeekr’s 615km range and 310kW/440Nm output.

VariantPrice (before on-road costs)
Smart #5 Pro+ RWD$58,900
Smart #5 Premium+ RWD$63,900
Smart #5 Brabus AWD$73,900

The flagship Brabus starts at $73,900, which is $1000 more than the Zeekr 7X Performance.

Smart revealed the #5 in August 2024, including at an event in Byron Bay, and the SUV originally had an Australian customer-delivery target for the second half of 2025, but Smart moved the launch into 2026. The 2027 Smart #5 will now arrive in Australian showrooms in November 2026.
