Key highlights:
- Model Y Performance’s price drops to $84,900 before on-roads
- Power Share arrives for MY26 Model Y and MY27 Model 3
- Two Model Y variants now accelerate 0.5 seconds quicker
Tesla has updated the Model Y for Australia for the 2027 model year, cutting $4500 from the flagship Performance variant while adding minor specification changes and Power Share capability.
The changes arrive as Tesla continues its recovery in Australia, with the Model Y currently sitting third in year-to-date sales after becoming the first EV to top the country’s monthly sales charts.
The updated 2027 Tesla range includes four variants for the Model 3 and four variants for the Model Y, and orders for both models are open as of October 1, 2026, in Australia.

2027 Model Y Performance gets cheaper
The biggest MY27 change affects the Model Y Performance, as its Australian price drops from $89,400 to $84,900 before on-road costs.
| Tesla Model | Previous price | MY27 price |
|---|---|---|
| Model Y Premium RWD | $58,900 | $58,900 |
| Model Y Premium LR AWD | $68,900 | $68,900 |
| Model Y L Premium AWD | $74,900 | $74,900 |
| Model Y Performance | $89,400 | $84,900 (-$4,500) |
The lower price coincides with Australian Model Y Performance production switching from Germany to Tesla’s Shanghai factory in China.
The rest of Australia’s Model Y range has been sourced from Shanghai since the model arrived locally in 2022.
The Model Y Performance also gains two new interior and exterior choices: Glacier Blue exterior paint and Zen Grey interior. Paint is now an extra-cost option, matching the pricing approach already used for other Model Y grades sold in Australia.

Other 2027 Model Y variants remain unchanged in price

Tesla has not announced price changes for the other MY27 Model Y variants and the range continues to start with the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, priced from $58,900 before on-road costs.
The MY27 update represents the first model-year change since the ‘Juniper’ Model Y arrived in Australian showrooms in 2025. Tesla subsequently added the six-seat Model Y L to the Premium model grade in 2026.
Faster acceleration and Power Share
Tesla has also improved the claimed acceleration of two Model Y variants. The Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive now completes 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds, down from 4.8 seconds.
The Model Y L Premium also cuts half a second from its sprint time, now reaching 100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Tesla Australia has not confirmed how it achieved the improved figures. However, changes to the China-market Model Y L earlier this month included a new, more powerful ‘TL2’ front electric motor.
Those changes in China also increased the Model Y L’s claimed range from 751km to 776km on the CLTC cycle. The current Australian claim stands at 681km on the WLTP cycle.

Tesla Australia has also confirmed Power Share or V2L capability will be available on both the MY27 Model Y and MY27 Model 3, and it cannot be retrofitted to existing vehicles.
Power Share allows compatible vehicles to supply electricity to external devices through a separately purchased Tesla Outlet Adapter. Tesla Australia’s website currently lists the adapter at $145.
Model Y remains a major seller in Australia
The update arrives after a strong sales run for Tesla in Australia. The Model Y became the first EV to top Australia’s monthly sales charts when it overtook the Ford Ranger for first place in May 2026.
It then became Australia’s best-selling vehicle of any type in August 2026, and it currently ranks third among all vehicles year-to-date.
The cheaper Performance variant also arrives in the same week as another interest-rate rise, during a period of record EV sales in Australia.
The Electric Vehicle Council mentioned that it was suggesting a connection between booming EV sales and higher interest rates, while acknowledging that other factors also influence sales.
After a slow 2025, Tesla has recovered in 2026 with new models and a longer new-car warranty. More recently, insurance company Zurich said it would charge Tesla owners a lower insurance premium when their vehicles use Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software.
