Key highlights

  • The Avatr 06T will follow the Avatr 07L SUV, which is scheduled to arrive in Australia in the first half of 2027.
  • Overseas versions offer dual-motor and three-motor electric powertrains, with the flagship producing up to 712kW.
  • Australian pricing, local specifications and driving range figures are yet to be confirmed.

Avatr has officially confirmed its second model for Australia, and it’s a wagon. The 06T electric sports wagon is due to arrive in the second half of 2027, according to the brand’s local team. As of October 2026, that timing is the main detail locked in. Andrew Haurissa, head of brand and marketing at Avatr Australia, spoke to Australian media in Paris this week. He said the 07L SUV remains on track to be the first Avatr in Australia in the first half of 2027, with the 06T following in the back half of the year.

The local rollout looks set to mirror Europe, where the brand also confirmed this week that the 07L and 06T will lead its launch, with more models to come. Right-hand drive 06T prototypes have already been spotted around Sydney, so this one has been on the radar for a while. Australia will be one of the first right-hand drive markets for Avatr, after Thailand, where the brand debuted in 2024.

What does the Avatr 06T offer overseas?

Avatr hasn’t released Australian specifications yet, so the following is based on versions sold in markets such as China. Treat it as a guide to what could come, not a promise. The range-topping Performance version uses up to three electric motors for a combined 712kW and 996Nm. That is supercar-level output in a family-sized wagon. Mid and high-spec models use an 87.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The base grade has a dual-motor setup making 450kW and 750Nm, paired with a smaller 72.9kWh LFP pack.

There’s also a range-extended version overseas, with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, two electric motors and a 45.1kWh battery. It makes 370kW and claims 1200km of total range. It appears export markets will only get the pure EV, so don’t expect that one here.

Take the range figures with a grain of salt

The smaller battery is rated at 620km, and the larger one at up to 710km, both on the older NEDC test cycle. NEDC figures are generally more optimistic than what you’d see in daily driving. Australian-market range claims will likely be quoted on a different, tougher basis, so expect lower numbers on the local spec sheet. That is an expectation on our part, not something Avatr has said.

Who is it up against?

Zeekr 7GT

Avatr is aiming high. Mr Haurissa said the brand sees itself as a premium contender to “the Germans”, meaning Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and as sitting above Zeekr, which is part of the Geely Group. That puts the 06T up against the Zeekr 7GT and mid-size estates from the German luxury brands. In a market dominated by SUVs, a low, long electric wagon is a bit of a left-field pitch. Whether buyers will give up some ride height for the sleeker shape is something we’ll only find out once the car is on sale.

What we don’t know yet!

There is plenty still to learn about the 06T. Australian pricing hasn’t been announced, and neither has the local model line-up, battery sizes or power outputs. Avatr hasn’t said what will follow its first two models here. For the Avatr 07L, pricing and specs are also yet to be announced. The brand has indicated pre-orders will open before the end of 2026, with deliveries starting in the first half of 2027. That should give a good early read on how Avatr plans to price itself against the German brands it’s targeting, and by extension where the 06T might land.

Why it matters

If you’re shopping for a premium electric car in 2027, the choice is about to get wider and more interesting. A wagon offers more practicality than a sedan and a more car-like drive than many SUVs. If Avatr can back its German-rivalling talk with sharp pricing and a decent dealer and service network, the 06T could shake up a segment that’s currently pretty thin. Until the Australian specs and price land, it’s one to watch, not one to count on.
