Chinese automotive giant Changan will introduce its Nevo sub-brand in Australia in 2027, adding another contender to the increasingly competitive electric and hybrid vehicle market.
The company’s factory-run Australian operation, Changan Group Australia, has confirmed that a Nevo vehicle will be its first mainstream model under factory distribution. The launch is expected to follow the arrival of Avatr, Changan’s premium brand, which is scheduled to enter Australia next year.
Nevo will target buyers considering affordable electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids, putting it in competition with brands such as BYD, Geely, MG and Chery.
Changan Nevo Q05 likely to lead Australian launch

The Changan Nevo Q05 small SUV is expected to be the first model introduced locally. Overseas, it is available as a battery-electric vehicle, while a range-extender plug-in hybrid version is also offered.
The electric Q05 uses a 51.9kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a front-mounted electric motor producing 120kW and 190Nm. LFP batteries are commonly used in more affordable EVs because of their durability and suitability for frequent charging.
The Q05 is expected to compete with electric SUVs such as the Jaecoo J5, MG S5, Leapmotor B10 and Chery E5. It could also attract buyers comparing it with the Geely EX5 and BYD Atto 3 Evo.
An Australian price has not been announced. Based on current expectations, the Q05 could start between $30,000 and $40,000, but this remains an estimate rather than confirmed local pricing.
The range-extender version could broaden its appeal to buyers who want to drive primarily on electric power without relying exclusively on charging infrastructure. In this type of plug-in hybrid, a petrol engine generates electricity to help power the vehicle when required. Australian specifications, pricing and availability for this version remain unconfirmed.

More Nevo electric SUVs could follow

The Q05 may not be the only Nevo model considered for Australia.
The larger Changan Nevo Q06 electric SUV is also expected to follow, potentially giving the brand a competitor in the same broad segment as the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Zeekr 7X.
Changan showcased the Q05 and Q06 alongside the Nevo A06 sedan at the 2026 Paris motor show. The company confirmed plans for the models to become available in Europe from 2027, although that does not automatically confirm their Australian launch timing.
There is currently no confirmed Australian launch plan for the A06, which would compete in the electric sedan segment.
Changan’s wider Nevo range in China also includes the A07 sedan, Q07 SUV, Lumin city car and E07 SUV-ute. Some models are sold under different brands depending on the market, so their overseas availability should not be taken as confirmation that they will arrive in Australia.
How Nevo fits alongside Deepal and Avatr
Nevo will join two other Changan brands in Australia: Deepal and Avatr.
Deepal has sold electric vehicles locally since late 2024 through distributor Inchcape. Changan’s new factory-run operation will introduce Nevo and Avatr, although the company has not indicated that it plans to change Deepal’s existing distribution arrangement.
Andrew Haurissa, head of brand and marketing at Changan Group Australia, described Nevo as the upper-mainstream part of Changan’s brand portfolio. He also acknowledged that some Nevo vehicles could appear better equipped or more advanced than certain Deepal models, despite Deepal sitting higher in the brand hierarchy.
Whether Australian Nevo vehicles will wear Changan or Nevo badging remains undecided. In Europe, some vehicles from the group’s different sub-brands are sold under the main Changan name.
What Nevo’s arrival means for Australian buyers

Nevo’s arrival would give Australian buyers another option in a market where Chinese brands are competing on price, equipment and electrified powertrains.
The Q05 could be particularly relevant if it arrives at the anticipated price point, with the choice between a fully electric version and a range-extender hybrid potentially appealing to different driving needs.
However, buyers will need to wait for confirmation of Australian specifications, pricing, charging performance, warranty coverage and launch dates before making direct comparisons with established rivals.
For now, Changan’s 2027 rollout signals a broader push into Australia, with Nevo expected to target mainstream buyers while Avatr serves the premium end of the market.
