Key highlights

  • Luxeed will be Chery Group’s ninth brand in Australia, with showrooms planned in major cities.
  • The LLounge people mover leads the launch, followed by the Stormax SUV, which Luxeed claims can hit 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.
  • Australian pricing, final specs and an exact launch date haven’t been announced, and local cars will reportedly carry no Huawei hardware or software.

Chery’s premium Luxeed brand plans to expand its international line-up to six models, with four new SUVs reportedly being developed specifically for global markets.

The expansion builds on the brand’s initial export plans, which include the Stormax electric SUV and LLounge luxury people mover. Australia is among the markets expected to receive the first two models, with their local arrival planned for 2027.

The additional SUVs would give Luxeed a broader range of vehicles to compete with established premium brands and other Chinese manufacturers expanding overseas. However, their launch dates, specifications and Australian availability have not been confirmed.

Luxeed plans four new SUVs for overseas markets

Luxeed was established in 2023 as a joint project between Chery and Chinese technology company Huawei. Its current Chinese line-up includes the S7 sedan, R7 crossover coupe, V9 people mover and RX SUV.

According to information from a recent Luxeed presentation reported on 26 October 2026, the brand plans to organise its global range around three product lines.

The Stormax and LLounge will each have their own line, while a new SUV family will comprise four models provisionally named 3, 5, 7 and 9.

These SUVs are reportedly being developed specifically for overseas markets rather than being drawn from Luxeed’s existing Chinese line-up. They are also expected to sit apart from the more performance-focused Stormax, although their positioning and equipment have not been detailed.

The names remain provisional, and it is unclear when each model will be revealed or which markets will receive them first.

Three powertrain options could broaden the range

Luxeed is reportedly considering three types of electrified powertrain for its global models.

A battery-electric vehicle (BEV) runs entirely on electricity, while a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) combines an electric motor and rechargeable battery with a petrol engine that can drive the wheels.

An extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), meanwhile, uses an electric motor to drive the wheels, with a petrol engine acting as a generator to supply electricity when required.

Offering these options could help Luxeed appeal to buyers with different driving needs. A battery-electric SUV may suit drivers with convenient home charging, while a plug-in hybrid or extended-range model could provide more flexibility for longer journeys.

However, these powertrain combinations have not been officially confirmed for the four upcoming SUVs. Further details are expected in 2027.

What we know about the Stormax and LLounge

Luxeed Stormax

The two models leading Luxeed’s international expansion offer a glimpse of the brand’s intended positioning.

The Stormax, sold as the RX in China, is a large five-seat electric SUV measuring 5020mm long, with a 3000mm wheelbase. Its Chinese-market versions offer rear-wheel drive with 277kW or dual-motor all-wheel drive producing up to 437kW.

Depending on the battery, the Chinese model has a claimed driving range of 700km to 852km under the CLTC test cycle. These figures should not be treated as Australian range estimates, as local specifications have not been confirmed.

The LLounge, known as the V9 in China, is a seven-seat luxury people mover measuring 5359mm long. Its Chinese-market extended-range powertrain uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine as a generator and a 53.4kWh battery, with a claimed electric-only range of 285km to 305km under the CLTC cycle.

Both vehicles feature premium equipment, including advanced suspension systems. The LLounge also offers rear-wheel steering, designed to improve manoeuvrability in a vehicle of its size.

Will the additional Luxeed SUVs come to Australia?

Australia is expected to be among the early markets for the Stormax and LLounge, with the initial local rollout planned for 2027. The four additional SUVs, however, have not been confirmed for Australian showrooms.

Luxeed will also need to establish its local sales and servicing network, while the final specifications of its export vehicles remain important considerations. The international models are expected to operate without Huawei hardware and software, meaning their technology could differ from that of the Chinese-market versions.

Australian pricing, safety ratings, warranty details and delivery dates for the additional SUVs are not yet available.

For now, the four-model SUV family remains a planned expansion rather than a confirmed Australian product line. If Luxeed brings these vehicles here, they could give buyers more choice across the premium electric SUV market, but their competitiveness will depend on pricing, equipment and the specifications ultimately offered locally.
