General Motors, through its local distributor Premoso Pty Ltd, has issued a safety recall in Australia for the high-performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (model years 2020-2021), citing a transmission-control valve defect that could momentarily lock the vehicle’s wheels and pose a serious safety risk.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?
According to the official recall notice (reference REC-006406), a manufacturing defect may cause the transmission control valve to lose pressure. This loss of pressure can make gear changes difficult, and in extreme cases, lead to momentary locking of the wheels while the vehicle is in motion, elevating the risk of a crash.
Which vehicles are affected?
- Make: Chevrolet
- Model: Camaro ZL1
- Model Years: 2020–2021
- Variants: All
- Total Affected Units in Australia: 59
A list of affected VINs has been published. Chevrolet Camaro owners are encouraged to check if their vehicle is included in the recall.

What should owners do now?
While the Australian notice doesn’t yet specify the corrective action, standard practice suggests that affected owners will be contacted in writing and advised to visit Premoso/GM dealerships to rectify the defect—likely involving a software update or component replacement at no cost, similar to GM’s remedy overseas.
