The Cupra Leon VZe Sportstourer plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is now available in Australia with the ‘Extreme Package’. The Spanish-built PHEV launched locally in late 2025, with the package previously exclusive to the Leon hatch. It has now been added to the wagon (Sportstourer) after strong customer demand. A more powerful, petrol-only, all-wheel-drive VZx Sportstourer is also confirmed to join the lineup in mid-2026.
Pricing and availability of the new Extreme Package

The optional and more upgraded “Extreme Package” for the Cupra Leon VZe Sportstourer costs $7,600 more than the base price of the $69,990 (without on-roads). This package, which was previously exclusive to the Leon VZx hatchback, is now available as a Build-to-Order option through CUPRA Garages. This standard Sportstourer PHEV is the most affordable PHEV wagon available in Australia.

What does the Extreme Package include?

The Extreme Package brings the wagon closer to CUPRA’s performance-focused DNA through upgrades to driving dynamics, exterior styling, and interior design. The upgrades match those already offered on the Leon hatch and include:
- Brembo performance brakes with 4-piston front calipers
- CUP bucket front seats, trimmed in Enceladus Grey Seaqual and Dinamica materials
- Matrix LED ultra high-beam headlights
- Dark gloss interior accents
- Side skirts
- Extended rear spoiler
Why is this Cupra variant relevant?

Jerome Figuiere, Brand Director of CUPRA Australia, said, “Customers and media told us they wanted the most extreme version of the VZe Sportstourer, so we made it happen. This package proves that our PHEVs can be just as sporty, emotional and engaging as their ICE counterparts.”
The brand also continues to expand its electrified range in Australia, which currently includes Cupra Leon VZe Sportstourer and Terramar PHEV. The next-generation Formentor PHEV is coming soon.
CUPRA also hinted that a Leon Hatch PHEV could be added to the Leon lineup in the future, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
The market for PHEV wagons in Australia
The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) wagon market in Australia is extremely niche, and the general wagon segment has been in a steep decline for two decades. Along with the Sportstourer in the affordable segment, the Audi A5 e-hybrid Sportback and BMW M5 Touring PHEV wagons are available in the premium segment.
A few new PHEV wagons or PHEV variants of existing wagons have been confirmed or are under consideration. The Chinese BYD Seal 6 Wagon is expected in late 2026, and the Skoda Superb PHEV is confirmed for its arrival in Q1 2026. Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is under consideration for Australia.
