Key highlights:
- Denza Z9 GT now targets an Australian launch in early 2027
- Tri-motor AWD produces 850kW and claims 1036km of CLTC range
- BYD Flash charging compatibility supports peak DC charging up to 1500kW
The Denza Z9 GT electric sports wagon won’t arrive in Australia until the first half of 2027, pushing its launch back from the July–September 2026 window originally announced. BYD’s premium brand says it is juggling priorities as both the BYD and Denza vehicle ranges expand.
The delay gives Denza more time to prepare for an important new model, which will bring up to 850kW of power, ultra-fast charging and a claimed 1036km range under China’s CLTC test cycle.

Why has the Denza Z9 GT been delayed?
Denza Australia says there are “lots of moving pieces across the business” as the company expands its model lineups. A spokesperson said the brand doesn’t want to launch the Z9 GT simply to meet a deadline and that Denza considers the car an important brand builder and wants to introduce it under the right conditions.
The brand originally confirmed in April 2026 that the Z9 GT would launch in Australia during the third quarter of 2026. That window has now passed, with the first half of 2027 becoming the new target.
Denza has only recently begun delivering its first Australian models to customers, including the large B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs. It subsequently added the D9 luxury electric people mover, a significantly lower-volume model.
The Denza N9, a full-size PHEV crossover SUV, has also received Australian Design Rule (ADR) certification, although the company hasn’t announced its launch timing.
Denza Z9 GT: Powertrain and performance
The Z9 GT will compete with the Porsche Taycan and join a growing group of electric sports wagons planned for Australia, including the Zeekr 7GT and Exlantix ES GT. Denza hasn’t announced Australian pricing or confirmed which powertrain versions will be available locally.
The headline version features a tri-motor, all-wheel-drive electric powertrain and BYD’s next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology. The combined 850kW output makes the tri-motor version a serious performance proposition.
| Specification | Denza Z9 GT tri-motor AWD |
|---|---|
| Front motor output | 230kW |
| Rear motor output | 2x310kW |
| System output | 850kW |
| Battery | 122.5kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) |
| 0–100km/h | 2.7 seconds |
| EV range | 1036km (CLTC) |
| DC fast charging | 1500kW |
Its claimed 1036km range comes from China’s more generous CLTC testing cycle, so it shouldn’t be treated as a direct prediction of Australian real-world driving range.
The Z9 GT will be the first electric vehicle in Australia to feature BYD’s next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology. It also supports peak DC charging at up to 1500kW, making it compatible with BYD’s new Flash ultra-fast chargers, and the company plans to roll out these chargers to selected dealerships.
The charging figure represents the car’s peak capacity, rather than a guaranteed charging speed throughout a session.

UK pricing hints at the Z9 GT’s Australian position
The UK-market Z9 GT starts at £107,340, equivalent to approximately A$204,000, in electric form, and that puts it above the other Denza models currently offered in the UK. The Australian B5 starts at $77,185 before on-road costs, while the D9 starts at $88,185 plus on-road costs.
| Denza model | UK starting price | Approximate AUD equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Z9 GT electric | £107,340 | A$204,000 |
| B5 | £70,345 | A$133,900 |
| D9 | £77,445 | A$147,400 |
The UK Z9 GT price doesn’t directly translate to an Australian retail price, but it offers an indication of where the electric wagon could sit within Denza’s local lineup. Pricing for the rival Zeekr 7GT and Exlantix ES GT electric sports wagons also remains unannounced in Australia.
