Key highlights:
- Australian launch scheduled for January 2027, priced from $70,800
- Electric version offers 511km range and up to 320kW DC charging
- Wagon provides up to 1290L of luggage capacity with rear seats folded
Mercedes-Benz is bringing a wagon back to Australia in January 2027, with the new CLA Shooting Brake offering a choice of mild-hybrid petrol and electric power. Prices start at $70,800 before on-road costs, with the electric version costing just $2,190 more.
The new model marks the return of both the wagon body style and the CLA Shooting Brake nameplate to local showrooms. Mercedes-Benz Australia sold the first-generation model but skipped the second, and discontinued its other wagons before this latest arrival.
The third-generation CLA Shooting Brake is available to order now. Unlike its direct sibling, the four-door CLA ‘coupe’, the wagon will launch with just 2 front- or rear-wheel-drive options and no all-wheel-drive variants. This model is positioned as Australia’s most affordable electric wagon.
Mercedes-Benz has been absent from the Australian wagon market for five years and for the CLA wagon variant specifically, the wait has been seven years.

Mild-hybrid petrol and electric power
The two versions take different approaches to efficiency, with the electric model adding an 800-volt electrical system, a two-speed transmission and battery pre-conditioning.
| Specification | CLA200 mild-hybrid | CLA200 electric |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder with 48V mild-hybrid system | Single electric motor |
| System output | 120kW / 250Nm | 165kW / 335Nm |
| Battery | 1.3kWh | 58kWh |
| Transmission | 8-speed dual-clutch automatic | 2-speed automatic |
| Drive type | Front-wheel drive | Rear-wheel drive |
| Fuel consumption | 5.4L/100km | – |
| Energy consumption | – | 13.2kWh/100km |
| EV range | – | 511km (WLTP) |
| AC charging | – | 22kW |
| DC charging | – | 320kW |
The petrol version combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, and it can drive using electric power alone when the required output is below 20kW. It produces 120kW and 250Nm, with claimed fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km.

The electric wagon produces 165kW and 335Nm, with a claimed WLTP driving range of 511km from its 58kWh battery. Its 800V electrical system supports DC charging at up to 320kW, while AC charging peaks at 22kW. Battery pre-conditioning is also included.
The two-speed automatic transmission uses its second gear at higher speeds to help improve efficiency.
Dimensions: More room for passengers and luggage
The CLA Shooting Brake shares its length, width and wheelbase with the four-door CLA, but its wagon body brings larger rear door openings and a more spacious interior. Mercedes-Benz claims rear passengers gain an extra 26mm of headroom compared with the four-door sibling.
| Length | 4723mm |
| Width (excluding mirrors) | 1855mm |
| Height | 1452–1469mm |
| Wheelbase | 2790mm |
| Boot space rear seats up | 455L |
| Boot space rear seats folded | 1290L |
| Under-bonnet storage (CLA200 electric) | 101L |
The electric version adds a 101-litre front storage area under the bonnet, alongside the main cargo compartment.
