Ford Motor Company has recalled 244 units of the Ford Ranger utes and Ford Everest SUVs from 2022. The reason for the recall is sudden automatic transmission shift to “park” mode and abrupt stoppage during low speeds of below 6kmph.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

A software issue in the two Ford models, under certain conditions, can shift the transmission automatically into “Park”. This happens when the battery level drops too low, and the vehicle is travelling at speeds below 6km/h.
This can cause the vehicle to suddenly stop, and even the rear brake lights may not turn on as they should. This sudden stoppage could create a safety risk because the drivers behind may not see the brake lights warning them.
This increases the risk of a rear-end collision and could lead to injury or death to vehicle occupants or to other road users.
