Ford has recalled 777 examples of the 2024-2026 Ford Transit Custom double-cab van in Australia over a potential fuel leak that could lead to a vehicle fire. The issue comes from a manufacturing defect involving the fuel tank and a bulkhead mounting bolt.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

There may not be enough clearance between a bulkhead mounting bolt and the fuel tank, and over time a fuel or fuel vapour leak can be caused by the bolt rubbing against or piercing the fuel tank.

If an external ignition source comes into contact with the leaked fuel or vapour, it could result in a vehicle fire, which could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.
