Key highlights:
- Just 200 i30 Sedan N Monochrome examples allocated to Australia
- Retains the 206kW turbo-petrol engine and offers manual or DCT transmissions
- Next-generation i30 Sedan arrives in 2027; the N follows later
Hyundai is giving its current-generation i30 Sedan N a darker look with the new Monochrome special edition, limited to just 200 examples for Australia. It arrives here in November 2026 and replaces the familiar red accents with black and grey detailing, adds exclusive 19-inch forged wheels and brings more Alcantara into the cabin.
The performance hardware stays unchanged, with the familiar 206kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The next-generation i30 Sedan range is due in the first half of 2027, with the full-fat N performance flagship expected to follow later.

i30 Sedan N Monochrome exterior
Hyundai has toned down the bright red detailing associated with its N performance models to create the i30 Sedan N Monochrome. The special edition removes red and body-coloured detailing in favour of black and grey finishes and also adds several distinctive exterior and interior touches.
Hyundai N head Joon Park said the brand had “listened to customers’ voices for a toned-down high-performance model”. The Monochrome could be one of the final special editions of the current-generation i30 Sedan N, but Hyundai has not confirmed that it will be the last.

The Monochrome receives these exterior upgrades over the standard i30 Sedan N:
- Exclusive 19-inch forged alloy wheels
- Carbon-fibre rear spoiler
- Carbon-fibre mirror caps
- Black finish for the rear strut brace, replacing the standard red finish
- Grey and black detailing instead of the familiar red and body-coloured accents
The special-edition wheels are not available on other Hyundai models or as a genuine accessory, and they retain the standard car’s 245/35 ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
Hyundai will offer the Monochrome in two colours, both already available on the standard i30 Sedan N: Abyss Black Pearl and Performance Blue.
Despite its name, the Monochrome is not restricted to black paint, and Performance Blue remains an option for buyers who want the familiar brighter finish.
Interior changes

Hyundai has extended the darker theme into the cabin, with Alcantara trim across several touchpoints. The Monochrome includes:
- Alcantara steering wheel with black buttons
- Alcantara gear selector
- Alcantara shift boot
- Alcantara trim on the centre console
The black steering-wheel buttons replace the blue and red buttons found on the standard model.

Engine and gearbox: No change to performance
Hyundai has left the Monochrome’s powertrain untouched. It retains the standard i30 Sedan N’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.
| Specification | Hyundai i30 Sedan N Monochrome |
|---|---|
| Engine | 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol |
| System output | 206kW / 392kW |
| Manual transmission | 6-speed MT |
| Automatic transmission | 8-speed DCT |
| Drivetrain | Not announced |
Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
Genuine accessories: Can you build your own Monochrome?
Most of the Monochrome’s upgrades, apart from its exclusive forged wheels and some specific detailing, can be added to a standard i30 Sedan N through Hyundai’s genuine accessories range. Here are the listed accessory prices supplied for the standard car.
| Accessory | Price |
|---|---|
| Carbon-fibre rear wing | $3,760.11 |
| Carbon-fibre mirror caps | $1,295 |
| Alcantara shift boot for manual models | $49.95 |
| Alcantara shift knob for manual models | $169 |
| Alcantara gear selector and boot for DCT models | $259 |
| Alcantara steering wheel | $759 |
The standard steering wheel accessory does not change the buttons from blue and red to black, as Hyundai does on the Monochrome. Pricing for the complete special edition remains under wraps, and it will be known closer to the Australian launch.
Australian launch and production numbers
The i30 Sedan N Monochrome will arrive in Australian showrooms in November 2026, with only 200 examples allocated locally. Canada and South Korea will also receive the special edition initially, and Hyundai sells the sedan as the Elantra in Canada and the Avante in South Korea.
The Monochrome arrives ahead of a broader change for Hyundai’s i30 Sedan range. Hyundai has locked in Australian deliveries of the next-generation standard i30 Sedan variants, including updated hybrid models, for the first half of 2027.

The next-generation sedan will move to an entirely fresh, larger platform and adopt Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” styling language, which was revealed back in June this year.
However, the full-fat next-generation i30 Sedan N will arrive later than the standard range. It will sit at the top of the lineup as the performance flagship, above the regular variants and milder N Line models.
Hyundai has not provided a more precise arrival date or further details for the next-generation N model.
