Key highlights:
- New 2027 Tucson reaches Australia in the first half of 2027
- Updated hybrid produces 180kW and 380Nm
- SUV grows 60mm longer and 40mm wider
The next-generation 2027 Hyundai Tucson is heading for Australia in the first half of 2027, assuming the launch stays on schedule. Hyundai Australia is still working through which powertrains and specifications it will offer locally, while the new SUV brings a larger body, more interior space and a significantly updated cabin.
Hyundai Australia General Manager of Product Planning Jonathan Lam reportedly said, “[We are expecting that car] in the first half of next year.”
The timing remains subject to possible delays.
Bigger dimensions, more cabin space

The new Tucson will grow in every major exterior dimension.
| Length | 4700mm (+60mm) |
| Width | 1905mm (+40mm) |
| Height | 1685mm (+20mm) |
The extra size should also create more room inside, and Hyundai claims rear passengers will gain 29mm more headroom. The rear doors will also open 10 degrees wider than those on the outgoing Tucson.
Hybrid gets more power and better efficiency

The current Australian Tucson range uses two four-cylinder engines: 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol hybrid and 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol.
Hyundai Australia has not decided which combination will make the local range, but Lam said the company will assess the different powertrains available internationally before placing orders.
“We have multiple powertrains available to us globally. We’re going to take a look at it a bit more closely as we get close to ordering the car.”
Hyundai’s head office has already confirmed an updated 1.6-litre hybrid for the new Tucson.
| Specification | 1.6-litre hybrid |
|---|---|
| Power | 180kW (+8kW) |
| Torque | 380Nm (+13Nm) |
| Claimed fuel consumption | Up to 7% lower |
Cabin gets a major technology update

The new Tucson will feature an all-new interior. Top-specification models will receive a larger 14.6-inch touchscreen, up from the current 12.3-inch unit.
The system will run Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect software, and the driver’s instrument display will sit high on the dashboard as a thin display.
Despite the technology upgrade, Hyundai has retained physical controls for some functions, as international images show physical buttons for features including climate control and heated seats. Other available cabin features will include:
- Ambient lighting
- Perforated leather-like materials
- Wireless charging

Australian specifications are still being decided
Hyundai Australia has not yet confirmed the final local powertrain or specification lineup, but the company says it will examine the wide range of options available internationally before making its final choices. More Australian information should emerge closer to the local launch in the first half of 2027.
South Korea will be the first market to receive the new Tucson, and Hyundai expects to announce Korean pricing in October 2026, with domestic sales and order books scheduled to open shortly afterwards in the same month.
Hyundai has scheduled the official North American world premiere for 1 October 2026 in New York.
