Chery is bringing its new sub-brand, iCaur, to Australia early next year, with the boxy V25 mid-size SUV. The V25 will make its Australian public debut at Everything Electric Sydney from September 18-20, shortly after its global reveal at the Chengdu Motor Show in China.
Chery plans to launch the V25 here in early 2027 but hasn’t yet confirmed local pricing, specifications or the exact launch date.
Kate Gillis, previously the Managing Director of Peugeot Citroen Australia from 2020 to 2024, leads iCaur’s Australian operation, and iCaur is pronounced as “iCar”, with the “u” silent.
We will get a better estimate of who the V25 could compete with after more details are released, but it enters a tough market segment ruled by cars like the Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, and Mazda CX-5, and rugged ones like the GWM Tank 300.
A new Chery brand with a different look
iCaur is Chery’s adventure-focused car brand and describes itself as an “expressive new energy brand”; new energy covers plug-in hybrids, extended-range electric vehicles and battery-electric vehicles.
The brand will target Australia’s growing SUV market with boxy, straight and chunky-looking vehicles, and this also separates iCaur from Chery’s existing Australian brands, including Chery, Omoda Jaecoo and Lepas.
Chery hasn’t confirmed which other iCaur models will follow the V25 in Australia, which sits between the electric V23 small SUV and the flagship V27 EREV large SUV.
The V25’s styling shares more visual links with the smaller V23, and both V23 and V27 have already appeared in right-hand-drive form, which makes their local launch likely.
The V25 uses an EREV powertrain
The V25 uses unibody construction rather than a body-on-frame chassis despite its rugged, off-road-inspired appearance and the Chinese-market model uses an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system.
A 115kW turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine works as a generator to recharge the battery only, while two electric motors send power to all four wheels.

Features and dimensions of the iCaur V25
The V25 measures 4636mm long, 1920mm wide, and 1855mm tall with a 2820mm wheelbase, which makes it 36mm longer and 65mm wider than a Toyota RAV4, while its wheelbase stretches 130mm further. The five-seat SUV provides 378 litres of boot space expandable to 998 litres with both row seats folded plus 41 storage areas.
The electrified SUV, which has a retro, boxy G-Wagon styling, rides on 21-inch alloy wheels, which are large for this segment. Inside, the equipment list includes heated, ventilated and massaging front seats.
Chery’s Australian brand expansion continues
Chery returned to Australia with a factory-backed distribution operation in 2023; the company launched Omoda Jaecoo here in 2025 and plans to add Lepas this year. The Australian brand portfolio will expand further in 2027, with iCaur, Freelander, and Jetour.
