Key highlights

  • The updated G700 adds a redesigned grille, new wheel designs and body-coloured exterior trim.
  • Huawei’s ADS 5 driver assistance technology is now available, while the plug-in hybrid powertrain remains unchanged.
  • Australian pricing and specifications are yet to be confirmed ahead of the SUV’s planned local arrival in 2027.

The Jetour G700, a large plug-in hybrid off-road SUV from Chinese manufacturer Chery’s Jetour brand, has received its first major styling update in China, roughly a year after going on sale. The model is already confirmed for Australia, where it is expected to join a growing field of electrified off-roaders in 2027. The updated G700 gets a revised front grille, new alloy wheel designs and body-coloured bumpers and side skirts. The changes give the SUV a cleaner appearance without altering its overall shape or rugged proportions.

Jetour has also introduced Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 5 technology as an option. The system uses a combination of sensors, radar and LiDAR, which measures distances using laser pulses, to support driver assistance and active safety functions. The mechanical package remains unchanged. Australian buyers will need to wait for local specifications to learn which exterior features and technology will be offered here.

Plug-in hybrid power with serious off-road hardware

The Jetour G700 combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a dedicated hybrid transmission. The engine produces 155kW and 340Nm, while the front electric motor delivers 210kW and 360Nm. The rear motor adds 300kW and 435Nm. Combined system outputs are rated at 665kW and 1135Nm. These figures position the Jetour G700 as a high-output plug-in hybrid, although Australian performance figures and specifications have not yet been confirmed.

In China, buyers can choose between a 34.13kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a larger 59.45kWh ternary lithium battery. Jetour quotes electric-only driving ranges of 150km and 260km, respectively, under the CLTC testing cycle. These figures use China’s test standard and should not be treated as equivalent to Australian or WLTP range figures. The SUV also has an 800V electrical architecture and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing it to power external electrical equipment at up to 6.6kW. That could appeal to touring buyers who want to run camping appliances or other equipment away from mains power.

Off-road hardware includes full-time four-wheel drive, three differential locks and selectable terrain modes. Jetour quotes a maximum wading depth of 900mm. Double-wishbone suspension is fitted at both ends, while air suspension and continuous damping control are available on higher-specification Chinese models.

A large SUV with a luxury-focused cabin

Jetour G700

Measuring 5198mm long, 2050mm wide and 1956mm tall, the Jetour G700 is a substantial vehicle. Its 2870mm wheelbase provides the foundation for a cabin that combines digital technology with premium comfort features.

Most Chinese-market variants have five seats, although a three-row configuration is also available. Whether Australia receives the five-seat model, the seven-seat version or both remains unconfirmed.

The dashboard features a 35.4-inch panoramic digital display at the base of the windscreen and a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Selected versions also offer a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted display and an 8.8-inch screen for rear climate controls.

Leather or Nappa leather upholstery, powered front seats, heating and ventilation are standard across the Chinese range. Rear-seat comfort features and upgraded sound systems are available, alongside luxury additions such as a refrigerated compartment and an intelligent fragrance system.

When is the Jetour G700 coming to Australia?

Jetour G700

Jetour has previously outlined plans to introduce the G700 in Australia in the second half of 2027, following the arrival of more affordable models such as the T1. The brand’s Australian launch plans also include the T2 and F700 dual-cab ute. Unlike Jetour’s earlier crossover SUVs, the G700 and F700 sit under its Zongheng sub-brand and use body-on-frame construction. This design separates the body from a dedicated chassis, a layout commonly associated with vehicles designed for demanding off-road use.

The Jetour G700 will face competition from established and emerging large plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs, including the Denza B8 and GWM Tank 500 PHEV, as well as the planned Geely Battleship 700. For Australian buyers, the key questions will be price, local equipment levels, towing capacity, warranty coverage and the availability of a seven-seat configuration. None of those Australian-specific details has been confirmed in the information available.

The Jetour G700 has also attracted attention in China for crossing the Yangtze River using amphibious technology. However, its more relevant test in Australia will be whether its off-road capability, plug-in hybrid system and luxury equipment can justify its eventual price against established rivals. Australian pricing and final specifications are yet to be announced.
