Lepas has completed an extensive Australian testing and adaptation program ahead of its local launch, with engineers validating the brand’s vehicles across a range of road and climate conditions.

The program involved both global and Australian engineering teams, who assessed prototype vehicles over thousands of kilometres to ensure they meet local expectations for comfort, refinement, durability and safety.

Thousands of kilometres of local testing completed

Testing was conducted across metropolitan, regional and rural areas, covering coarse-chip bitumen roads, highways, winding mountain routes and urban environments.

Vehicles were also evaluated in varying weather conditions, including hot- and cold-weather testing, with a focus on durability and air-conditioning performance.

According to Lepas, the program was designed to ensure its vehicles are well suited to Australia’s diverse driving environments before reaching customers.

The local validation work also included calibration of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to suit Australian road markings, signage and traffic conditions.

Engineers assessed the performance of these technologies across different road environments to help ensure consistent operation for Australian drivers.

Lepas Australia highlights importance of local validation

Lucas Harris, Chief Operating Officer of Lepas Australia, said the testing program was an important step in preparing the brand for local customers.

“Australia presents some of the toughest vehicle conditions anywhere in the world.

“Road surfaces vary enormously, distances are long, temperatures can be extreme and customers have very high expectations for ride, handling and refinement.

“Rather than simply bringing a global vehicle to market, we’ve invested significant time validating and tuning Lepas for Australian conditions, and will provide confidence for our customers.”

Lepas will become the latest addition to the Chery Group portfolio in Australia, positioning itself as a new-energy SUV brand focused on design, technology and intelligent mobility.

The Lepas L6 BEV will be the first model to launch locally, with Australian arrivals scheduled for November 2026.

Further details on pricing, specifications and the broader Lepas model range are expected closer to the brand’s Australian debut.
