What makes the XPENG X9 different from other large family EVs?
While most large seven-seat electric vehicles are SUVs, the XPENG X9 adopts a people-mover body style focused on passenger comfort and interior space.
XPENG has equipped every X9 with Active Rear-Wheel Steering, intelligent dual-chamber air suspension and an AI chassis control system. The company says these systems help improve manoeuvrability in urban environments while maintaining stability on highways.
Despite its size, the X9 achieves a turning radius of just 5.4 metres.
Its futuristic “Starship” design also delivers a drag coefficient of 0.236Cd, helping maximise efficiency.
Inside the XPENG X9’s seven-seat cabin
A key focus of the XPENG X9 is passenger comfort.
The flat-floor cabin seats seven occupants and still offers a substantial 721-litre boot capacity with all seats in place. Folding the rear seats expands cargo capacity to 2,554 litres.
The second row features XPENG’s Zero Gravity seats, which offer 14-way power adjustment along with heating, ventilation and massage functions.
According to XPENG, the seating position is designed to improve comfort by optimising body posture and reducing pressure during long journeys.

XPENG ANZ on the X9’s Australian launch

Damian Royce, Head of Marketing at XPENG ANZ, said the X9 blends the practicality of a people mover with the driving dynamics of a luxury SUV.
“A car this size is not supposed to drive this well. The X9 combines the space and practicality of a seven-seat MPV with the refinement and confidence of a luxury SUV, using technologies such as Active Rear-Wheel Steering and intelligent dual-chamber air suspension to make it feel far smaller and sharper from behind the wheel.
“But what truly sets the X9 apart is the way it treats every passenger’s time as something worth designing for, with a premium cabin and a factory-backed ownership experience that reflects XPENG’s long-term commitment to Australia.”
